CRITICAL APPRAISAL
General Description
Design : Case-control study analyzed data
Subject : 4071 workers who were exposed to noise greater than 85
dBA
Title : Interesting, concise and straightforward
Authors : Clearly written constitution
Abstract : Clear and appropriate rules
Introduction : Contains the background and research objectives
Level of Evidence
Level IV
P-I-C-O Analysis
1. Population : 4071 workers who were exposed to noise greater than 85
dBA over a one-year period ( 1 January 2005 – 31 December 2005).
2. Intervention : Detailed history taking and examination was done. The
relationships of cholesterol and triglyceride levels with NHL were analyzed.
3. Comparison : No comparison
4. Outcome : This study found that individuals with hypertriglyceridemia
are at greater risk of NIHL. On the basis of this finding, workers exposed to high
noise levels should be educated on control of triglyceride levels to help reduce
their risk of NIHL.
V-I-A Analysis
1. Validity :
a. The references of this study are well-defined
b. This study was using standardized examination of patients with clinical case of
NHL
2. Importance :
a. To study the relationship of cholesterol and triglyceride levels with NHL.
b. The reader is confident in the truth of the results of this original research article
because the authors had analyzed all the results well.
3. Applicability :
This article may valuable to give the readers information about the high level of
cholesterol and triglyceride increasing NHL risk.

Abstrak
Pendahuluan
Hasil
Total sebanyak 4071 subyek diteliti (530 perempuan, 13.0%; 3541 laki-
laki, 87.0%), dengan usia rata-rata 39,97 ± 9.24 tahun, berkisar dari usia 18
sampai 68 tahun.
mengalami tuli akibat bising. Mekanisme pasti hipertrigliseridemia meningkatkan
kejadian tuli akibat bising perlu dilakukan penelitian lebih lanjut. Hasil dari
penelitian ini, perlunya program pendidikan kesehatan kerja untuk pekerja dengan
paparan bising intensitas tinggi, termasuk informasi mengenai kadar trigliserid
serum yang terkontrol untuk menurunkan risiko tuli akibat bising.
