Question:

Find the unknown alphabets in the given equation.

(I) (II)
SPART X 4 = TRAPS

Condition: Digit should not repeat

Answer:

Take part - I in the consideration.

S can’t be a number which shall generate carry because part – II contains only 5 digits.
S = 1, 2, 3, 4,……..
Let’s see
If S =1 then
1 x 4 = 4 (No carry)
If S = 2 then
2 x 4 = 8 (Again no carry)
If S = 3 then
3 x 4 = 12 (Carry….. :) )
We will always find carry if will go for other numbers which are greater than 3.
Hence S can be 1 or 2.

Now take part – II in consideration.

If S = 1

Condition: Then Tx4 (from part – I) must give an answer in which first digit contains
no. “1”

1PART T x 4 = X1 (Here “X” is unknown)

x 4
TRAP1

T may be any number, now have look…..

T=1, 2, 3, 4, …..
1 x 4 = 4 (Don’t satisfies above condition)
2 x 4 = 8 (Don’t satisfies above condition)
3 x 4 = 12 (Don’t satisfies above condition)
4 x 4 = 16 (Don’t satisfies above condition)
5 x 4 = 20 (Don’t satisfies above condition)
6 x 4 = 24 (Don’t satisfies above condition)
7 x 4 = 28 (Don’t satisfies above condition)
8 x 4 = 32 (Don’t satisfies above condition)
9 x 4 = 36 (Don’t satisfies above condition)

Hence “S” can’t be “1”, it must be “2” [2PART X 4 = TRAP2]

If S = 2

Condition: Then 4xT (from part – I) must give an answer in which first digit contains
no. “2”

2PART T x 4 = X2 (Here “X” is unknown)

x 4
TRAP2

T=1, 2, 3, 4, …..
1 x 4 = 4 (Don’t satisfies above condition)
2 x 4 = 8 (Don’t satisfies above condition)
3 x 4 = 12 (Satisfies above condition)
4 x 4 = 16 (Don’t satisfies above condition)
5 x 4 = 20 (Don’t satisfies above condition)
6 x 4 = 24 (Don’t satisfies above condition)
7 x 4 = 28 (Don’t satisfies above condition)
8 x 4 = 32 (Satisfies above condition)
9 x 4 = 36 (Don’t satisfies above condition)

Sub condition 1: Now T can be 3 or 8 (From above)

(I) (II)
2PART X 4 = TRAP2

If T = 3,

2PAR3 2 x 4 = 8 or 2 x 4 + 1 (carry because of “P”) = 9

x 4
3RAP2

In any condition 2 x 4, from part – I can’t give digit “3”

2 x 4 = 8, or if any carry comes because of “P” then it may be digit “9”

Sub condition 2: Now T can be 8 or 9(From above)

From sub condition 1 & 2 we can easily understand T can’t be “9” or “3”

Hence T = 8 [2PAR8 X 4 = 8RAP2]

Now our equation is looking little attractive 0
2PAR8
2PAR8 X 4 = 8RAP2 x 4
8RAP2

In the above equation we can easily observe that “P” shouldn’t be the no. which can
generate carry or else T will become “9” which is not true.
Now P can be either 1 or 2 (Remember we did this exercise earlier). But as per given
condition digits can’t be repeat.

Means if S = 2 then “P” must be “1” [21AR8 X 4 = 8RA12]

(I) (I)
21AR8 X 4 = 8RA12.

Now [R x 4 (from part – I) + 3] must give an answer in which first digit contains no. “1”
3
21AR8 R x 4 + 3 = X1 (Here “X” is unknown)
x 4
8RA12

R can be any number…..

R=1, 2, 3, 4, …..
1 x 4 + 3 = 7 (Don’t satisfies above condition)
2 x 4 + 3 = 11 (Satisfies above condition)
3 x 4 + 3 = 15 (Don’t satisfies above condition)
4 x 4 + 3 = 19 (Don’t satisfies above condition)
5 x 4 + 3 = 23 (Don’t satisfies above condition)
6 x 4 + 3 = 27 (Don’t satisfies above condition)
7 x 4 + 3 = 31 (Satisfies above condition)
8 x 4 + 3 = 35 (Don’t satisfies above condition)
9 x 4 + 3 = 39 (Don’t satisfies above condition)

We can easily understand R = 2 or 7. Again as per given condition digits can’t be repeat.

So if S = 2, “R” must be “7” [21A78 X 4 = 87A12]

Only one unknown wow!!!! Have a look…

3
21A78 A x 4 + 3 = XA (Here “X” is unknown)
x 4
87A12

From above
9 x 4 + 3 = 3 9 (Satisfies above condition)

“A” must be “9”

Here is your solution 21978 X 4 = 87912
