MOTIONAL EMF

Motinal emf

• When a conductor is X
moved across a magnetic F2
field, a EMF is setup .
This EMF is called 'motional F1
EMF'.
v
Consider a wire of length "x"
and with width 'D' moving F3
across the magnetic field B
with a velocity v as shown in
diagram.
cont....
now finding induce current
ἐ= iR
BDV
i = ἐ/R = R .according to lenz's law current must be in
clock wise direction.
due to ths induced current F1,F2 and F3 exist.
and there is no fore in one side (right side) because out of field.
the direction of these forces can be find by using fleming's left hand
rules .
.

• so the two forces are in opposite direction in same in megnitude

so they cencell each other
• only F1 remaing.
F1 is the force which oppose our efforts.
F1 = IDB
by putting the value of i we get.
F1 = ( BDV ) BD =B²D²V/R
R

The power delivered ( power expenditure) by Fext is equal to the

power dissipated :
P= F1 V = (B²D²V/R)v

P = (B²D²V²/R)

P= i²R = (B²D²V²/R²)R
we see the both power are equal as required by law of
energy conservation.
