Factors Affecting the Length of Wound Care in Diabetic Foot Ulcer Patients in
Hasanuddin University Hospital Makassar Period January 2016 - December
2017

ABSTRACT

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease which if not treated will
cause various complications, one of which occurs due to diabetic foot ulcers, even to
the point of being amputated if not treated. Diabetic foot is one of the chronic
complications of Diabetes Mellitus which is most feared by people with Diabetes
Mellitus because it can cause disability and even death. Nearly one third of treated
Diabetes Mellitus cases have problems with their legs. As a result, long care days and
expensive medical expenses. Not to mention the calculated power lost due to
disability and absence at work and the costs that need to be incurred due to these
defects. Approximately 15% of people with DM will experience ulcers during the
course of their illness and 3-4% will have severe infections. 85% of patients with
diabetic foot ulcers will be amputated and 36% of these amputation patients, 2 years
later will die. Infection that occurs is the main reason for DM patients with ulcer /
gangrene complications to undergo treatment and treatment at the hospital. Infection
occurs because open wounds on the legs make it easier for bacteria to enter, grow and
spread. This condition is annoying for patients because it requires long care and high
costs, and creates a feeling of worry for patients if they have to undergo amputation.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine the characteristics of pneumonia

radiology imaging based on chest x-ray in RSUP Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo
Makassar period January – June 2018.

medical records. The study was conducted in October-December 2018 in the Medical
Record of Hasanuddin University Hospital by looking at the patient's medical record.
The research subjects used total sampling, namely all patients diagnosed with diabetic
foot ulcers who were hospitalized at Hasanuddin University Hospital who had
medical records and were eligible for the study sample.

Results and conclusions: The number of diabetic foot ulcer patients who were
hospitalized and according to the inclusion criteria were 23 people. Based on the
results of the study and the Bivariate test results of the Spearman Correlation, it can
be argued that the factors that influence the length of wound care for patients with
