Introduction of Green Password
Discontinuation of Printing /Dispatching of PPKs and PIN Mailers

We refer to our e-Circular No. NBG/NBG-INB-RINB/7/2017-18 dated 30.10.2017 and


NBG/NBG-INB-RINB/2/2018-19 dated 31.05.2018 on the above subject. Presently Online
Registration facility is available for the personal individual customers only. In case of retail joint
accounts (with mode of operation as E or S, F or S, L or S and A or S) and Corporate
Customers, either the PPK containing user ID and Password is delivered to the customer in
person across the counter at the Branch or dispatch mode is used for sending password
through PIN mailers to the customer if they are unable to visit the Branch.

2. PPKs and PIN mailers are required to be printed in a secured environment and are
dispatched to the Branches/Customers through speed post. These activities are not only
expensive but the branches have to handle the PPKs as security forms and need extra care for
handling.

3. To do away with printing of PPKs and dispatching of PIN mailers, a new user driven
registration process and re-issue of login password, in the name of “Green Password” has been
developed. Under the URIB (User Driven Registration Process for Internet Banking)/Green
Password, the retail customers with the joint accounts having E or S, F or S, L or S and A or S
and Corporate customers can create temporary user name & password after validation of input
data with core data base. The salient features of the process are given below;

 The objective of new process of URIB/Green Password functionality is to discontinue the

 In case of retail customers having mode of operation “single” they have an option to
authenticate by using ATM Card credentials or by visiting Branch (Existing process- no
change).

 In RINB, allowing ATM Card registered user, to set his/her own username and password
at the time of INB registration itself. ATM Card INB registered user will not be asked for
change of username and password on first time login as these were set by the
customers themselves.

 In RINB, profile password will not be set at the time of INB registration for users
registered through ATM card. Setting of profile password will be prompted after
customer logs into the site for the first time.
 In case of RINB Joint accounts and corporate customers, customer has to visit Branch
for Authentication.

 Dispatch mode will be withdrawn for registration as well as re-issue of login password.
The dispatch option will be replaced with “SMS”.

 RINB User registration & Re-issue of login password through PIN Mailers will be
continued for NRI customers (customers having country other than India/IN). Issuance of
PPKs will be continued to the NRI customer who opted to collect the PPK from the
identified foreign offices.

4. The detailed process for onboarding for INB facility and re-issue login password for all
types of Retail and Corporate Customers are furnished in Annexures as under;

a) Annexure-I : Retail Internet Banking

b) Annexure-II : Khata and Saral

c) Anexure-III : Khata Plus, Vyapaar and Vistaar

5. The facility has since been rolled out. All operating functionaries are advised to note the
availability of the “Green Password” functionality for registration of customers for INB and
provide proper guidance to the customers when they approach the Branch for INB registration.
It is reiterated that Circles/Branches are required to popularise the online registration which is
cost effective as well.
