History
In 1970, Goldhofer developed the first modular heavy-duty systems.
In 1988, the first self-propelled modular transporter with hydrostatic drive was built. In 1989,
Goldhofer introduced the electronically synchronised steering.
In 1993, further development of the electronic multi-way steering for self-propelled
modules.

Heavy-Duty Modules
Heavy-duty modules of Goldhofer are an extremely flexible and economical transport system to solve any
transportation task for payloads ranging from approx. 70 tons to over 10,000 tons. Additional equipment such
as goose-necks, pulling devices, loading bridges, long load equipment, etc. ensure an optimum adaptation to
load and transport route requirements.

Heavy-Duty Modules
Basically, the module types differ in tyres, carrying capacity, dimensions, Frame
and type of wheelset bearing. The center beam in box-section design with strong cross beams guarantees a high
Pivot bearing (A) frame strength and thus optimum load characteristics. Air reservoirs, hydraulic
Ball bearing race ring (B) oil reservoirs as well as the steering system are integrated in the bogie frame
and protected against damage and corrosion.
Modules with tyres in single arrangement and fitted with pivot bearings are also
available with a recess for vessels in addition to the platform version.

Axle suspension and levelling Steering
The hydraulic axle suspension of the pendular axles of a vehicle is intercon- The heavy-duty modules are equipped with hydro-mechanical all-wheel force steer-
nected to hydraulic support circuits (3- or 4-point support). Within these ing in 2-circuit execution. This feature is advantageous inasmuch as the full steer-
support circuits an equal axle load is achieved. The hydraulic stroke of up ability is maintained, should one of the steering circuits possibly fail. The steering
to +/- 300 mm enables optimum compensation in longitudinal and lateral angle on modules with pivot bearings is 60°, whereas modules with ball bearing
direction and therefore permits operations on uneven terrain as well as the race rings feature a steering angle of 55°. Adjustment of the steering combinations
adjustment of extreme side tilt (levelling). is made by changing the steering points of the track rods. The track rods are easily
accessible from above. The electronic steering synchronisation enables a central
turning point independently of the position of the modules.

Combination Possibilities / Variants
For large loads with a high centre of gravity, several platform trailers can be
combined in longitudinal and lateral direction.
Longitudinal combinations
Combination of modules in any configuration in longitudinal direction
Parallel combinations
Combination of modules coupled side by side to reach a vehicle with 11/2 - or
2-module widths. In the “split” version (for 11/2 module width), the modules
are split lengthwise, thus resulting in a platform combination with three
pendular axles per axle line.
Goose-necks
- Universal goose-neck to combine bogies or loading decks with claw coupling
without an adapter
- Combination goose-neck to combine bogies and intermediate platforms. The
coupling of loading decks with claw coupling requires an additional adapter.
Loading decks
Intermediate platforms
Crawler decks
- Single extendible
- Foldable side extensions
Drop decks
- Single extendible
- Foldable / telescopic side extensions
Off-Shore
For off-shore operation, the efficiency of the heavy duty modules becomes
apparent. All operations such as loading, transporting, positioning and unloading
are carried out by the heavy-duty combinations. Also parallel combinations with 3
or 4 bogies coupled side by side are used.

The self-propelled transporters of the PST-E-range have an
electronic multi-way steering with a steering angle of /+/- 110°.
This steering is used in individual modules as well as in any
large longitudinal or lateral combination. The selection of the
following steering modes as
∙ Normal driving
∙ 90° crab steering
∙ Diagonal crab steering
