This term we will be using Piazza for class discussion. The system is highly catered to
getting you help fast and efficiently from classmates, the TA, and myself. Rather than
emailing questions to your TA, I encourage you to post your questions on Piazza.
Enroll in piazza at :piazza.com/ucla/winter2016/33b
Enrollment requires an E-mail address ends with ucla.edu. If you do not have such an E-
mail address, please email me, and I can enroll you manually.
If you have any question, you should ask in the following order: piazza, student math
center, your TA, and your lecturer. Sending an E-mail to me should be reserved as the
last resort.

Grading policy:
Homework(20%)+Quiz(10%)+Midterm(30%)+Final(40%)=X
Homework(30%)+Quiz(15%)+Midterm(0%)+Final(55%)=Y
Your final score= max(X,Y).
Your final letter grade is completely determined by your percentile of your final score
among all students in the class.
• exams
We have one midterm exam and one final exam.
Midterm: lecture time and lecture location, Feb 8th.
Final: Wednesday, March 16, 2016, 3:00pm-6:00pm
No makeup exam is allowed under any circumstances. We will drop your lower midterm
score (in numbers, not in percentile) automatically. Your final grade will be completely
determined by your total score.
• homework
Homework is assigned online weekly on piazza. The homework assignment usually
accumulates during the week, finalizes on Friday and is due next week in discussion
section. It is only collected by your TA’s in discussion sections, graded by a reader, and
returned back to you in discussion sections. The homework grading is based on
completeness. No late homework is allowed under any circumstances. In total, eight
homework will be collected. We will drop the lowest three scores automatically.
• Quiz
There will be two 10 mins quizzes given in lecture on Jan 22 and Feb 26.
No makeup quiz is allowed. We will drop the lowest score automatically. The materials
of the quiz are essentially from the homework.
