Dear Parents,
The Scholastic Writing Awards 2019 are here. Please go through the following details &
encourage your child to participate in the same.
Every year, Scholastic India holds a nation-wide fiction writing competition for students, in
a quest for the country’s finest young wordsmiths. The competition encourages children to
use their writing skills, imagination and creativity to craft stories fit for publication.
Students of Classes 4 to 9 can participate in the Scholastic Writing Awards. Stories should
be written in the English language only. All entries will be evaluated by eminent authors.
The winners stand a chance to not only win attractive awards, but their award-winning
stories will also be published by Scholastics in an anthology titled, "For Kids By Kids.”
This year, students are invited to write a short story/ fiction based on any one of the
themes listed below:
Humour
Horror
Fantasy
Adventure
Humour
Horror
Fantasy
Adventure
HIGHLIGHTS:
Prize-winning entries from each group will feature in the Scholastic anthology
titled, “For Kids by Kids”
All participants will receive a certificate of participation from Scholastic India
SUBMISSION DATES:-
Parents who wish to enroll their ward for the Scholastic Writing Awards can register
them online and submit their stories by clicking on link mentioned below:

PROCEDURE:
Please fill in all the required details in the online submission form. Incomplete forms
will be disqualified.
Writings should be done in English language only.
Plagiarized, copied or unoriginal stories will be disqualified.
Disqualified entries will not be entitled to any certificates of participation.
If any story is found to be plagiarized, copied or unoriginal, the entry will be
disqualified.
Entries received after the last date will be disqualified.
Each participant has to read and rank the stories assigned to them before the deadline.
Failing which the entry submitted by the participant will be disqualified.
o Read as much as you can. Familiarize yourself with different styles of writing but be
original when it comes to your own work.
o Increase your word power. The greater your vocabulary, the more effective your
writing will be.
o Read aloud what you have written and ask friends who read to comment on it as well.
o Use correct spelling, punctuation and grammar.
o Keep a dictionary, a thesaurus and a basic grammar book handy.
o Don't write in a rush. Spend a lot of time with your writing and make sure not to end
your piece abruptly.
o Always carry a notepad and pen with you. Jot down out-of-the-blue thoughts, make a
note of interesting observations; they'll never go to waste when you're writing.
