People there are hospitable and generous.

开头:

I come from … which is …

I was born and grew up in a lovely city named …

The place where I am from is called …, which is the capital city of … Province.

2. What tourist attractions would you recommend to visitors who come to your hometown?

I would recommend /suggest a visitor go to visit … in my hometown, which is a world-famous wonder/ a

valuable cultural heritage / a landmark (symbol) of the city. By visiting this place, a visitor can get a
better/deeper understanding of the unique local culture and custom of my hometown.

3. Is that a big city or a small town (or, a village in the countryside)?

My hometown is a small city with a small population of no more than 1 million. (2000 万=twenty million)

It’s an important commercial center/ economic center /transport pivot (交通枢纽) in the northeastern
part of China.

4. Do you prefer to live in a big city or in the countryside? / would you prefer to live in a big city or in the
countryside?

Comparatively speaking, I’d prefer to live in a big city. The major advantage of living in big cities is that we
can live with many conveniences. For example, there are many hospitals, schools and supermarkets, so we
could get everything more easily. Also, we could have more entertainment choices, like cinemas, pubs,
parks and museums. Finally, the public transport in the big city is a lot more convenient than that in the
countryside.

small town, slow-paced life, quiet and peaceful

We don’t have to undertake as much as pressure from work and life as people in a big city do.
6. Do you like your hometown (Why? / Why not?)

another reason, the pleasant weather and lovely people in the city make it a pretty livable place.

7. What do you think needs to be done to make your hometown a better place to live in?

(What transports are there in your city? Which one is your favorite? )

(traffic congestion, parking difficulties, public transport inadequacy, en)

Well, it’s a big question. The first thing that I can come up with now is the improvement on traffic
condition. Some new rules and policies should be implemented to limit the number of cars. I guess car
pooling might be a good solution.

new application on my mobile phone - Didi car pooling

share one car with other people - Save money , environmental friendly, less energy consumption

Well, I live in a flat, a three-bedroom flat with my parents. It’s been quite comfortable and cozy.

weekdays and return to my home on the weekends. It’s a quite comfortable place to live in.

2. Would you say it’s a good place to live? Would you say it’s a suitable place to live?

(Is there anything you dislike about living there?)

Yes, I think it’s a good place to live. For one thing, my apartment is in a pretty nice location, very close to
the downtown. For another thing, people who are living there are so friendly and warm-hearted.

I’m quite satisfied with my living place. If I have to say, I think it’s the public transportation. Although
several highways have been built, they offer convenience only for those who have private cars. I hope
there will be light rails or metros constructed in the area.

3. Do you hang anything on the walls in your room?

Well, there are quite a few things hanging on the wall, like some enlarged photos of me and my families
and a pretty nice cross stitch that my mum has done for me as a present.

(why?) bring us good luck / avoid the evil things

4. Would you prefer to live in a house or a flat? (why?)

If I had the choice, I’d prefer to live in a house, especially the one in the suburb, because if I lived in house
in the suburb, I would have my private garden. I would be able to grow many kinds of plants in the garden
and raise several dogs. You know, I love dogs so much.

5. Which room do you like most in your house?

I really enjoy being in each room of my house since each has its own unique functions. If I had to choose, I
would say the living room. The biggest feature of the living room is the French window, which is
overlooking a nice street view. You know it is really relaxing to look outside, especially if you have been
reading for hours.

6. Where do young guys usually live in your country?

Generally speaking, young guys usually live in flats because their incomes make them way too far to be not
able to afford a posh house.

But it really depends. It depends on what kind of job they are doing and whether they are living with their
families or not. Say, they can buy a cool house if they got a well-paid job and they will live in a nice house
as well if their parents are rich enough to be able to afford one.

3. Do Chinese people like changing their names? Why or Why not? What kind of people like changing
their names?

In my personal opinion, generally Chinese people don’t like changing their names, because to most people
names are just symbols, though some people do believe names can affect the course of their life, or
somehow carries a significant meaning to them. For example, the singers would like to change their
names so as to become more popular, they may believe new name will bring them luck.

I prefer to watch films in a cinema rather than at home. Coz the large screen and topping sound system can always
give me a prefect visual shock and audio enjoyment.

Well, if taking the factors of high technologies, like 3D effects or computer special effects into consideration, I
guess I’d prefer to watch western films.

Well I’d say there should be quite a few differences between Chinese films and western films. But I consider the biggest

Describe one of your favorite films.

You should say:
What the title is
What the story is about
Why you are attracted by it
And explain what you think about the film

My favorite film is Cell Phone, which is a domestic film directed by Feng Xiaogang who is a well-known director in China.
His early works were mainly comedies, and usually released before Spring Festival to add happy atmosphere to the
festival. But this one is different, which has a sad ending.

The film tells a story about a famous talk show host, who tries to hide his love affair out of the marriage, but is betrayed
by his cell phone. You know this sort of thing: his love’s short messages and incoming calls. At the end of the film he
loses his family, his job and his love as well. It’s a familiar story, but it arouses heated discussions about love, trust, and
deception.

The film impressed me for its funny but touching story. Another thing I think worth mentioning is the actor’s
performance. The actor Ge You is a well known comedian for his unique humorous style. His successful acting won the
film many awards and numerous audiences.

I learn from the film that an attractive film doesn’t necessarily have grand scenes, breathtaking plots or complicated
special effects. The story that roots in real life also touches the audiences. We are now overwhelmed by Hollywood
blockbusters. I have been tired of the Hollywood model that “One hero saves the whole world”. What we really need
is something that makes us think.

is worth watching.
 Yes, I like the programs that are active, creative and entertaining.
2. How much time do you spend watching television?
Watching TV would be the last thing I’ll choose to do. Each day I spend no more than half an hour watching the CCTV
news.

3. How do you feel about advertisements on TV?

Well, this is a really controversial topic. On one hand, TV commercials can be helpful. They tell us the latest fashions
and new technologies. One the other hand, too many advertisement can be quite disturbing, especially when you‘re
enjoying a serial TV play.

4. Have you ever watched any TV programs from other countries?

Yes, I have, but not too many. I’m especially into some American TV series, like lost, hero, prison break, etc.

5. What benefits can people get from watching foreign TV programs?

I think different people can get different benefits from watching foreign TV programs. For example, for language
learners, they can learn some authentic words and expressions from them. And for those who are fond of traveling,
they might learn about diverse culture from them, anyway, watching foreign TV programs helps people expand their
outlooks.

6. Do you think watch TV can help students with their studies?

It’s undeniable/There’s no deny that TV can be rich in educational and inspirational possibilities. In this case, some
science and education programs, like Human and Nature or Discovery can help students get a further understanding
of the world and nature.

 TV/Movie enriches people’s leisure time, making it possible to get amusement at home.
 TV helps viewers to turn off the pressure and tension because it doesn’t always ask much thinking.

people.

playing, reading, exploring nature, learning about music or participating in sports.

Describe a TV program you enjoy watching.

You should say:
What it is
How often you watch the program
What it is mainly about
And explain why you like the program.

One of my favorite TV programs is Nature and Man.

The program is broadcasted at 11 on Wednesday evenings. Although it is a bit late, I never miss it. So I should say I
watch the program weekly.

It’s a documentary series produced by CCTV. It tells stories about wild life and man’s relationship with nature. For
instance, there was one series about migrating birds, which impressed me deeply. In order to record the whole course of
the birds’ migration, the director and cameramen followed the birds in a helicopter, flying from the north to the south
across the whole country. When the birds stopped at night for rest, the filming team would stop nearby. They never
interfered with the birds. The program reveals a true picture of birds’ migration.

The program also shows some black sides. For example, a lot of wild animals are poached in Western China; some
animals lose their habitats as a result of deforestation. The purpose of the program is to waken people’s consciousness
of nature protection.

This program has been one of the most popular programs. Firstly, it features pleasant pictures and vivid explanation. The
camera work is perfect. It is an enjoyment to appreciate the fascinating natural scenes of beauty all around the world.
Sometimes I feel that I ‘m watching a travel program and visiting the wonderful places with rare animals and plants. In
addition to visual enjoyment, it publicizes the significance of establishing a harmonious relationship between man and
nature. For the reasons I have mentioned above, I appreciate this program very much.
1. Do you like listening to music? Why?
Yes, music is an important part of my life and I get much fun from it. Listening to music is one of the best ways that can
get me relaxed. I really love the time when I am lying in my fluffy bed, listening to the amazing jazz while
reading some magazine.

2. Have you ever played any instrument before?

Yes, I have learned to play the piano since I was a child. Thanks to my parent’s insistency, I learned one more skill
than others. It’s really a hard job, but I think it worthwhile.

I learned piano when I was about ten in elementary school. It’s a fun instrument to play. The only drawback of it is I
can’t carry it with me. So I really admire people who could play guitar in a party.

3. Do you think it is good for children to learn musical instruments?

In my opinion, children should learn at least one musical instrument. I believe every child has a taste for music if it
is cultivated properly at an early age. Learning musical instruments helps them develop intelligence and
appreciation for art.

 Adults can benefit from learning to play an instrument too because it helps the mind to be active and
sharpen the memory.
 For children, learning to play an instrument allows them to develop creative and express themselves.
 Music provides a way for you to express your personality.
 During the courses of learning an instrument, you’ll meet some new friends. To meet other people of your
own age and with similar tastes is always enjoyable.
Computers & Internet
1. Do you usually use computers?
Yes. I use computers both at home and in office nearly every day and they have become part of my life.

2. How did you learn about computers?

I remember I first got the information and knowledge of computers at the secondary school. We took some classes at
that time. Then gradually I became a good typist. Now I can use computers with proficiency.

3. What do you usually do with your computers?

Well, I do some normal things with my PC, such as playing games, watching movies and chatting with friends, etc.
Besides, surfing the internet is also what I usually do. And in my spare time I could download some wonderful music
and films via the internet.

4. Do you think using computers is beneficial to children?

No, I don’t think so. There are more harms than benefits for children to use computers. They may get addicted to
computer games. And the long time exposure to computer screens is harmful to their eye sight.

5. What changes do you think will happen to computers?

I suppose they will become smaller sized and more portable. Besides, the operation system will get more stable.

1. Do you like to surf on the internet? If so, how often do you use it? And what do you do
when you are online?
Yes, I am really an internet geek and I can’t live without it. The internet is such a big addiction for me that I surf on the
internet every day if I have nothing special or urgent to deal with. And I can do lots of things, like sending e-mails,
browsing news, chatting with friends and playing games.

2. What are the disadvantages of using the internet?

Well, the biggest disadvantage is that is occupies too much of our time. We tend to be attracted by the abundant
information on the internet and forget our original purpose. Sometimes I just want some information about the
weather, but I find I spend one hour or more surfing the fashion or entertainment news.

3. Have you made any friends on the internet?

Yes, I’ve keen on surfing on the internet, especially chatting with others through QQ or We Chat. I have made many
friends via the internet. We often discuss something we are both interested in.

4. How do you think of email?

Well, email has now become so common that people even can’t imagine how to live and work without it. No matter how
much stuff you write, all it takes is just one-click away. It is really a cool tool for communication.
5. What do people do with email?
I think we can group the purposes of using email into two categories. Firstly, it is used for communication with friends.
With email, friends can keep in contact easily. Secondly, it is used for work. We all know that in this fast developing
society, email is the quickest way to deal with business.

 The internet gives greater access to more knowledge.

 Today for better communication, we can avail the facilities of email; we can chat for hours with our friends over
a long distance without worrying about fees.
 Many services are now provided on the internet such as online banking, job seeking, purchasing tickets for
movies, and hotel reservations.
 The internet offers wider commercial opportunities. (part3
 The wide use of the internet brings human beings a revolution. It has the ability to spread news quickly, brings
humans convenience and makes online education possible.(part 3 远程教育也可展开说)

Technology is like a two-edge sword—it has generated boons as well banes to our lives.

 Pornography is perhaps the biggest threat related to your children’s healthy mental life. There are thousands of
pornographic sites on the internet that can be easily found.
 Children tend to lack essential interpersonal skills. Those who indulge in online games often feel isolated and
being cut off from the outside world, they tend to be more isolated and self-centered.
 Family members had a close relationship with each other before the invention of internet.
 As the most frequently used electronic facility, computers are used as crime tools.
 When children use mobile phones/ computers/ iPods, they face health risks such as radiation and eye sight
problems because they are in formative years. Therefore, parents should ban their kids from using cell phones/
computers or iPods lest they might be exposed to emissions.

 The government believes that Internet Censorship(互联网监管制度) is a good way to prevent online
violence and pornography. Internet censorship is the control of what can be accessed, published, or viewed
on the Internet. To filter out the harmful information is the government, school, parents and the whole society’s
responsibility.

That would be my father. He is always talking on the phone anytime anywhere you see him. His mobile phone is
always like a hotline. We can always hear something like “the number you dialed is busy now, please redial later.” every

telephone companies should offer a service that automatically blocks telemarketing calls. That way, we might pay a little
bit more, but we’d have peace.

I hate people talking loudly on cell phones in restaurant or in cinema. It’s so rude to everybody else. I

always check their voice mail later to see if there are any messages.

As far as I know, there’re some differences on people’s idea about fashion comparing the previous year with today. For
example, in the past, like 20 years ago, following the mainstream of trend was regarded as being fashionable. But
now pursuing the non-mainstream of trend was regarded as being fashionable. But now, pursuing the non-
mainstream culture and showing the individuality become the new tendency of fashion.

5. Are the clothes that people in your country wear today the same as people’s clothes in
previous years?
There must be quite a lot of differences. People today have more choices on the colors, styles and brands of clothes
than they could do in the past. Another obvious difference is that more new technologies have the rag trade, which
makes the clothes today lighter and easier to maintain.
