2. What subject are you studying? Which university are you studying at now? Do you like your major? Why
or why not? What’s your favorite subject? Which subject did you dislike? Which subject is more important
for you?)
The subject is not what I’m concerned about. I focus on the campus life.
learning atmosphere
What I like the most about this subject (my studies at my university) is working in a team with my classmates. I
can get great confidence and a sense of achievement from breaking through difficulties and challenges
together with my classmates.
4. Would you say your uni is a good one? What are the advantages and disadvantages of your university?
Not only getting a degree but also acquiring skills for life…
I like the environment of my university. It is quiet and beautiful. The library is excellent.
However the accommodation is awful. They allocated 6 students in one room so it is pretty crowd and I always
suffer from noisy.
Canteen…pricey… we have to wait for long time to ….
Actually, …gave me some advice on choosing my major. …told me that this major would be in great demand in
the future and it would be easier for me to find a good job after graduating. So I just followed his/her advice.
I chose the major by myself. I have always been interested in … field/industry/world since I was a child. I feel
so lucky that I’m studying what I really like and I’m working hard so that I have a chance to make my dream
come true in one day.
It is still fresh in my mind as if it happened yesterday. Besides being excited and nervous, I also felt very
honorable to be a member of this big family.

The place where I am from is called …, which is the capital city of … Province.
2. What tourist attractions would you recommend to visitors who come to your hometown?
My hometown is a small city with a small population of no more than 1 million. (2000 万=twenty million)
It’s an important commercial center/ economic center /transport pivot (交通枢纽) in the northeastern
part of China.
4. Do you prefer to live in a big city or in the countryside? / would you prefer to live in a big city or in the
countryside?
Comparatively speaking, I’d prefer to live in a big city. The major advantage of living in big cities is that we
can live with many conveniences. For example, there are many hospitals, schools and supermarkets, so we
could get everything more easily. Also, we could have more entertainment choices, like cinemas, pubs,
parks and museums. Finally, the public transport in the big city is a lot more convenient than that in the
countryside.
We don’t have to undertake as much as pressure from work and life as people in a big city do.
6. Do you like your hometown (Why? / Why not?)
Of course I do. For one reason, I was born and grew up there, the city witnessed my youth and growth. For
another reason, the pleasant weather and lovely people in the city make it a pretty livable place.
7. What do you think needs to be done to make your hometown a better place to live in?
(What transports are there in your city? Which one is your favorite? )
Well, it’s a big question. The first thing that I can come up with now is the improvement on traffic
condition. Some new rules and policies should be implemented to limit the number of cars. I guess car
pooling might be a good solution.
share one car with other people - Save money , environmental friendly, less energy consumption
Accommodation
1. Do you live in a house or a flat?
Well, I live in a flat, a three-bedroom flat with my parents. It’s been quite comfortable and cozy.
Well, I live in a ….. in the suburb of ….. It’s a little far away from my college, so I live in the dormitory in the
weekdays and return to my home on the weekends. It’s a quite comfortable place to live in.
2. Would you say it’s a good place to live? Would you say it’s a suitable place to live?
Yes, I think it’s a good place to live. For one thing, my apartment is in a pretty nice location, very close to
the downtown. For another thing, people who are living there are so friendly and warm-hearted.
I’m quite satisfied with my living place. If I have to say, I think it’s the public transportation. Although
several highways have been built, they offer convenience only for those who have private cars. I hope
there will be light rails or metros constructed in the area.
Well, there are quite a few things hanging on the wall, like some enlarged photos of me and my families
and a pretty nice cross stitch that my mum has done for me as a present.
If I had the choice, I’d prefer to live in a house, especially the one in the suburb, because if I lived in house
in the suburb, I would have my private garden. I would be able to grow many kinds of plants in the garden
and raise several dogs. You know, I love dogs so much.
I really enjoy being in each room of my house since each has its own unique functions. If I had to choose, I
would say the living room. The biggest feature of the living room is the French window, which is
overlooking a nice street view. You know it is really relaxing to look outside, especially if you have been
reading for hours.
Generally speaking, young guys usually live in flats because their incomes make them way too far to be not
able to afford a posh house.
But it really depends. It depends on what kind of job they are doing and whether they are living with their
families or not. Say, they can buy a cool house if they got a well-paid job and they will live in a nice house
as well if their parents are rich enough to be able to afford one.
Name
1. Does your name have any special meaning? / Is there any special meaning in your name?
3. Do Chinese people like changing their names? Why or Why not? What kind of people like changing

In my personal opinion, generally Chinese people don’t like changing their names, because to most people
names are just symbols, though some people do believe names can affect the course of their life, or
somehow carries a significant meaning to them. For example, the singers would like to change their
names so as to become more popular, they may believe new name will bring them luck.

My favorite film is Cell Phone, which is a domestic film directed by Feng Xiaogang who is a well-known director in China.
His early works were mainly comedies, and usually released before Spring Festival to add happy atmosphere to the
festival. But this one is different, which has a sad ending.
The film tells a story about a famous talk show host, who tries to hide his love affair out of the marriage, but is betrayed
by his cell phone. You know this sort of thing: his love’s short messages and incoming calls. At the end of the film he
loses his family, his job and his love as well. It’s a familiar story, but it arouses heated discussions about love, trust, and
deception.
The film impressed me for its funny but touching story. Another thing I think worth mentioning is the actor’s
performance. The actor Ge You is a well known comedian for his unique humorous style. His successful acting won the
film many awards and numerous audiences.
I learn from the film that an attractive film doesn’t necessarily have grand scenes, breathtaking plots or complicated
special effects. The story that roots in real life also touches the audiences. We are now overwhelmed by Hollywood
blockbusters. I have been tired of the Hollywood model that “One hero saves the whole world”. What we really need
is something that makes us think.

TV
1. Do you often watch television?
Actually, not very often. Believe it or not, I haven’t watched TV for about one year. I just can’t find anything that
is worth watching.
Yes, I like the programs that are active, creative and entertaining.
2. How much time do you spend watching television?
Watching TV would be the last thing I’ll choose to do. Each day I spend no more than half an hour watching the CCTV
news.
TV/Movie enriches people’s leisure time, making it possible to get amusement at home.
TV helps viewers to turn off the pressure and tension because it doesn’t always ask much thinking.
News, current events and historical programs can help make young people more aware of other cultures and
people.
Documentaries (纪录片) can help develop critical thinking about society and the world.
Educational programming can develop young children’s socialization and learning skills.
坏:
Television can affect learning and school performance if it cuts into the time kids need for other activities.
Most of children’s free time, especially during the early formative years, should be spent in activities such as
playing, reading, exploring nature, learning about music or participating in sports.
TV viewing is a sedentary (久坐的) activity and has proved to be a significant factor in childhood obesity.

The program is broadcasted at 11 on Wednesday evenings. Although it is a bit late, I never miss it. So I should say I
watch the program weekly.
It’s a documentary series produced by CCTV. It tells stories about wild life and man’s relationship with nature. For
instance, there was one series about migrating birds, which impressed me deeply. In order to record the whole course of
the birds’ migration, the director and cameramen followed the birds in a helicopter, flying from the north to the south
across the whole country. When the birds stopped at night for rest, the filming team would stop nearby. They never
interfered with the birds. The program reveals a true picture of birds’ migration.
The program also shows some black sides. For example, a lot of wild animals are poached in Western China; some
animals lose their habitats as a result of deforestation. The purpose of the program is to waken people’s consciousness
of nature protection.
This program has been one of the most popular programs. Firstly, it features pleasant pictures and vivid explanation. The
camera work is perfect. It is an enjoyment to appreciate the fascinating natural scenes of beauty all around the world.
Sometimes I feel that I ‘m watching a travel program and visiting the wonderful places with rare animals and plants. In
addition to visual enjoyment, it publicizes the significance of establishing a harmonious relationship between man and
nature. For the reasons I have mentioned above, I appreciate this program very much.

Yes, music is an important part of my life and I get much fun from it. Listening to music is one of the best ways that can

reading some magazine.
I learned piano when I was about ten in elementary school. It’s a fun instrument to play. The only drawback of it is I
can’t carry it with me. So I really admire people who could play guitar in a party.

Adults can benefit from learning to play an instrument too because it helps the mind to be active and
sharpen the memory.
For children, learning to play an instrument allows them to develop creative and express themselves.

Pornography is perhaps the biggest threat related to your children’s healthy mental life. There are thousands of
pornographic sites on the internet that can be easily found.
Children tend to lack essential interpersonal skills. Those who indulge in online games often feel isolated and
being cut off from the outside world, they tend to be more isolated and self-centered.
Family members had a close relationship with each other before the invention of internet.
As the most frequently used electronic facility, computers are used as crime tools.
When children use mobile phones/ computers/ iPods, they face health risks such as radiation and eye sight
problems because they are in formative years. Therefore, parents should ban their kids from using cell phones/
computers or iPods lest they might be exposed to emissions.
The government believes that Internet Censorship(互联网监管制度) is a good way to prevent online
violence and pornography. Internet censorship is the control of what can be accessed, published, or viewed
on the Internet. To filter out the harmful information is the government, school, parents and the whole society’s
responsibility.
Mobile
1. Do you have a mobile phone? What do you use it for? What do you think of the
mobile phone?
Yes, I do. And it’s a birthday gift from my father. Most of the time, I use my phone to contact others by making

or to play games.

of commodities.
5. Do you prefer to buy things in small shops or in big shops such as supermarkets and
department stores?
Well, it depends on what things I’m going to buy. If I want to buy some daily necessities or food, I’ll go to a nearby

because it sells a wide variety of goods, and the shopping atmosphere is much better.
4. Are people’s ideas about fashion (or ideas about what is ‘fashionable’) today the same
as people’s ideas in previous years?
As far as I know, there’re some differences on people’s idea about fashion comparing the previous year with today. For
example, in the past, like 20 years ago, following the mainstream of trend was regarded as being fashionable. But
now pursuing the non-mainstream of trend was regarded as being fashionable. But now, pursuing the non-
mainstream culture and showing the individuality become the new tendency of fashion.
5. Are the clothes that people in your country wear today the same as people’s clothes in
previous years?
There must be quite a lot of differences. People today have more choices on the colors, styles and brands of clothes
than they could do in the past. Another obvious difference is that more new technologies have the rag trade, which
makes the clothes today lighter and easier to maintain.

anything you like. But I like tomatoes, red peppers, bean sprouts, and some onions. Well, first, you slice the
vegetables into thin pieces. After that, you tear a little oil in a frying pan or wok until it’s really hot. Then add the
vegetables, and stir then until they’re lightly cooked. Oh, three or four minutes. Don’t overcook them. Then you
can add some spices, like salt and pepper or whatever you want, to add flavor. I put in a little soy sauce. And
that’s about it.
I like to make my own. Then I can put whatever I like on them.
But I don’t make the dough for the crust, cause that’s very complicated for me. I usually buy that from the
supermarket. It’s easier. You also need some tomato sauce, some shrimp, and vegetables, say tomatoes, onions
and garlic. Now you can start. First, spread the dough out into plated-sized pieces to make the crusts. Then
sprinkle them with a little olive oil. Then spread your tomato sauce over the dough, add the shrimp and the
vegetables, and bake for about 20 minutes.
I like to make meatball my own. It is pretty easy. You need some ground beef, garlic,
onions, and spices. And some bread crumbs which is used for holding the balls together. Well, I usually use
canned tomato sauce. First, you chop up the garlic and onions very finely, and then fry them. Second, mix them
with the meat, and add some spices and bread crumbs. Next, you could make the meatballs. After that, you can
cook the sauce; I like to fry them a little until they’re brown on the outside. Then cook them in the sauce for
about 20 minutes. You could eat it with rice, noodles or just with soup.

Yes, I do. I need to decide what clothes I’ll wear and what activities I can do or can’t do the next day according to the
weather forecast.
5. Have there been any changes in the weather over the past few years? (part3)
Being influenced by the trend of global warming, spring and autumn are getting shorter and summer is getting
much longer than before. Not only that, the highest temperature in summer refreshes records in history.
6. Do you think man’s actions influence the weather on the globe? (part3)

7. What should the government do to prevent the worsening of the weather? (part3)

important one, of course, is Spring Festival, just like Christmas in Western countries.

Lantern Festival is usually considered as the end of Spring Festival. We eat sweet dumplings which are made of sticky
rice flour. Various lanterns are hung everywhere. It is an old custom to write riddles on the lanterns for people to
guess.
2. Do you think it fun to keep a pet? Why do you think people like keeping pets?
Yes, the pet adds much fun to my life. My kitty, which is called Lisa, always crouches at my feet when I am reading.
Even if I stay at home alone, I do not feel lonely.
3. What do you think are the benefits for children to keep pets?
Well, keeping pets helps children develop a sense of responsibility because they have to take care of the pets. Besides,
I think the children who keep pets are more considerate when they are in contact with other people.
Transport
1. What kind of transport do you like? What are the advantages and disadvantages of it?
I like to take the high-speed train if I go on a long journey. Now in china, the service of the high-speed railway is much
better than before, and the price is more economic than that of airplane. Also, it is faster than coach, and we can
enjoy the outside scenery while the train is moving.

Well, I’d prefer to have old people as my neighbors. Coz elder people are more caring and understanding.

sports, whereas older people usually don’t want to be bothered by any noise.
4. Do you think it is important to have a harmonious neighborhood?
Yes, I think so. A harmonious neighborhood makes you peaceful in mind. The living place is one of the most important

Sound
1. Do you prefer a quiet environment or an environment with some sounds?

because of my personal character. I’m a bit inner-going and quiet; a restful environment can always makes me relaxed
and concentrate on my work or study more easily.
Colors
1. Could you tell me what color you like best?
My favorite color is blue. It’s usually associated with the sky and ocean, which stand for broadness, I think.
Time
1. Do you wear a watch? Why?
I wear a watch every day. With a watch we can arrange time rationally. In this way, the work efficiency can be
greatly improved.
I don’t wear a watch. I bring cell phone with me everyday everywhere so I use it as a watch.
2. What would you do if you were late for a meeting?
Well, I hope this sort of thing will never happen to me. If I were late for a meeting or some important occasions, I
suppose I would feel so self-blamed and say “sorry “again and again.
4. Do you feel that time moves fast, or slowly? When do feel time seems to move
slowly/fast?
It varies from different situations. When I do something that I really like, such as playing the guitar or watching football
matches, I always feel the time pass quickly. But when I am forced to do something that I don’t feel interested in, I find
time is crawling slowly.
