Verizon CEO Hans Vestburg has decided to reorganize Verizon’s wireless business to focus on
the type of customer served rather than the type of service offered. This includes making
groups like business-oriented groups like Verizon Business Group and more consumer-oriented
groups like Verizon Consumer Group. I do think that reorganizing a business can help to serve
customers better, however, it can also have the opposite effect. I think that the key in this
reorganization is to make sure that client to service-provider connections are maintained so
that these relationships do not have to be built all over again or lost. This can be tough if
relationship managers are relocated to another business division and can no longer provide the
same service to their long-time client. In the long-run, however, I do think that this
reorganization is the right strategy to allow customers to have a one stop shop for all of their
wireless needs. One more thing that the article highlights is that Verizon has been extremely
focused on improving their 5G service and coverage so that they can offer a premium product
to their high-end customers. In the long run, this is also the future although it might cause them
to lose focus on their current business.
