I would like start with the best observation.

St.Johns

UKG – Teacher (Sudha Rani) started her class teaching vowel sounds ( Short and Long
sound).Teacher made Good Use of Black board to write two kinds of words. The objective was
to teach students the difference between the sounds. Students have done really well in identifying
the short and long sounds in a word.AT this point I wanted to see if the students knew the reason
for calling few sounds short and others as long. Students did well by answering the teacher if
there only one vowel it is a short sound and more than one a long sound.

The next topic was subtraction of single digit numbers. Teacher has used number line in the form
of TLM.

Teacher has asked the students to subtract by using the above TLM.

The black strip in the picture would hide the number line.

To subtract 5-2 first student would open 5 black strips and then closes 2 out of them and finds that 3are
open. Hence answer is 3.
Further she also play a game with kids to make the subtraction procedure Concrete to them.

Teacher used a magnet and stapler pins for this.


You can see the stapler pins are kept inside actually behind the numbers.

Teacher asks students individually to answer.

How much is 9-2.

As shown in [picture number two teacher has given 3 options 7,5.0

When the student gives the answer teachers tries to prove it.

She says that wherever the magnet stops in the given options that particular number is the right answer.

She placed the magnet on 0 magnet falls down since it is the wrong answer. Actually there are no pins to
attract to magnet behind number 0.It is the same with number 5.Magnet stops at 7 since it’s the correct
answer and teacher has arranged pins behind the correct answer.

So In this way teacher has used TLM , activities not just for the sake of using but according to the
situation managing her time properly. It was really good to observe the way teacher has one TLM in
different ways making slight changes according to her needs.

LKG/NURSERY
Teacher’s( Mamatha) objective is to teach Sight words.Teacher has all the dynamics like Voice,eye
contact,Language,patience in handling the class.

She has taken care of seating arrangement and used a chart to test the students understanding.
Overall Feedback:- Undoubtedly St. johns teachers are doing a great job in practicing activity based
teaching and learning corners as seen in the pictures.One change which I observed between two visits
was the classroom management which includes seating arrangement of students ,phasing the teaching
process have improved.

Nursey – K.Anuradha

I didn’t find too much in this class to observe Since Most of the time the teacher gave drilling to students
on rhymes.

LKG – S.NEELIMA

Children are very much involved in learning process. Teacher was very effective in voice, Body Language,
Flexibility and adaptability in the class. Her patience level needs a little improvement. I have seen her
scolding children in trying to elicit the answers.
The objective of the teacher is to narrate a story.( Crow – Fax)

My Observations and suggestions – Teacher didn’t use pictures related to both the main characters
from the story. Students were not in a position to answer few questions which were repeatedly asked. I
asked her simplify the questions. Teacher didn’t use actions to demonstrate certain important instances
in the story.
