Course Description: Welcome to Economics! I am excited to to be your teacher and look

forward to a fun and rewarding semester. This course is designed to prepare students to
make important economic decisions in their personal lives and as citizens of a democratic
society. This class will help students understand how markets work and the tradeoffs
involved in trying to accommodate unlimited wants with limited resources. In this course
students will deepen their understanding of the economic problems and institutions of the
nation and world in which they live. Students will practice life application skills such as
budgeting and time management in order to grasp an understanding of scarcity and
opportunity costs.

Required Textbook: Economics Principles and Practices, Glencoe McGraw-Hill, 1999

Course Requirements:
● Students must attend class in order to experience success and completion of course.
● Students need to keep all work, notes, and class paperwork organized in a folder.
● Students will either complete one or all of the following: a comprehensive midterm
exam and/or a comprehensive final exam.
● Students will complete a culminating project

Grade Twelve-Economics

The following units of study will be covered this year:

● Unit 1: Introduction to Economics
● Unit 2: Microeconomics
● Unit 3: Macroeconomics
● Unit 4: Global Economics
● Unit 5: Personal Finance
Assignments
Assignments need to be turned in by their due dates. Any work turned more than one week late
will not generally be accepted. I will accept work one day late for half credit. After one day, I will
not accept work and you will receive a zero.

Make Up Work

If you are absent when an assignment is due, that assignment is due the day you return. When
you are absent, you need to assume you missed classwork. It is your responsibility to inquire
about missed notes, reading and assignments. You have as many days as you were absent to
make up any work that missed. If you do not make up the work in the given time, you will earn a
zero.

If you a absent for a Unit exam, you will be expected to make-up the test the first day back to
school. If there are extenuating circumstances, they need to be explained/emailed prior to the
your return to class.

Attendance

You are expected to be in class, and anyone who misses class does so at his/her own risk.
Much of our class time will be spent discussing issues and taking notes. Absences will create
unneeded extra work for the absent student.

Arrive to class on time. The first tardy will be a warning, the next tardy will result in lunch
detention and a third tardy will be -5 from your class participation grade. If you lose all of your
participation points, the 5 points will be deducted from another assignment.

Behavior
You are expected to be courteous and respectful both to each other and to me as your
instructor. Disruptive or rude behavior affects us all adversely, and is unwelcome. In short, be
attentive and responsive, and please be considerate of others.
