Executive Summary

Government of Punjab (GOP) through Punjab State Industrial Corporation (PSIEC) is

developing a new Industrial park called “CYCLE VALLEY” at village Dhanansu near

Ludhiana. To provide connectivity to this cycle valley from NH -05 (Chandigarh –

Ludhiana – Ferozepur Road) PSIEC has selected a new route to construct a new four lane

road. This road will take off from village Ramgarh (Lat 30. 868931Deg., Long. 75.978435

Deg.). The job of implementation of this road project has been entrusted by PSIEC to

Punjab PWD B&R. The alignment of the proposed road has already been finalized by

PSIEC. E.E. const. div. PWD Ludhiana has got carried out detailed investigation along the

proposed alignment. The total length of road is 8.275 Km. The First 4.15 Kilometer

length of this proposed route is along the existing irrigation channel, after 4.15
Kilometer it takes a right turn on R.H.S towards Dhanasu. The next 2.950 Kilometer

length is along the existing link road from village Sahibana to start of Village Dhanansu.

The last 1.175 Kilometer section is a bye pass of village Dhanansu (Refer Key plan

enclosed herewith). It is proposed to construct a Dual two lane carriageway having

carriageway width of 2x7.5 m with a median of 1.5 m and earthen shoulder 1.5 m on

both sides. The avg. height of finished road from the adjacent field level is 1.50 m (crust

590 mm + Sub grade 500 mm + clearance from ground up to bottom of sub grade 410

mm). The proposed side slope is 2:1 (H:V). To implement this cross section minimum

width required at toe is 25.50 m. In first 4.150 Km a strip of 5.18 m width has been

reserved for irrigation channel, so the minimum land width required for road

construction in this section will be 22.5 m and the total land width required is 27.68 m
(22.5+5.18). As intimated the total land width available, from Km 0 to Km 4.15, is 23.470

m (Land of drainage deptt.), from Km 4.15 to Km 7.15 is 6.80 m (PWD) and from Km

7.15 to Km 8.275 is village common land. It is proposed to acquire land to have 27.6 m

wide ROW in this 4.150 km section and 30 m wide ROW in balance length.

The proposed alignment interfere with the existing Grain Market, Health care centre of

village Dhanansu and it touches the existing cremation ground at one location. There is a

deep gorge in section Km 6.470 to Km 6.570 on RHS (sand mining done by the owner of

land). Retaining wall has been proposed in this section.

Flexible pavement for the road has been designed as per IRC 37-2012 for a projected

traffic of 50 MSA and the total thickness of crust required for against 8% CBR is 590 mm.
the soil of the existing ground is sandy and good earth is available in the nearby area.

500 mm thick sub grade has been proposed in the complete length.

The existing link road from Km 4.15 to Km 7.15, having carriageway width of 3.5 to 5.5

m will be dismantle and reconstructed. Unilateral cross slope to both the carriageway in

section 0 to 4.15 Km has been proposed to avoid the entry of rain water from

carriageway to the irrigation drain on RHS, in rest of the section the cross slope

provided to each carriageway is unilateral i.e. each carriageway slopes towards the

shoulder.

The proposed alignment crosses Budda Nallah at RD 7.90 Km. A high level bridge with 2

span of 7.5 m each has been proposed at this location. Retaining wall average 2 m high in
a length of 200 m on both sides will have to be constructed to retain earth in

approaches. The existing 3 no. (2 slab and 1 H.P) culverts have been replaced with new

culverts. Total 11 no. culverts (3 Box type and 8 no. HP culverts with 1200 mm dia pipe)

have been proposed. These culverts will provide crossing to irrigation channel at two

locations and will work as balancing culverts. in addition 600 mm dia Hume pipes of

length 30 m have been buried at 15 locations to provide irrigation facilities to the

farmers on both sides of the road. No side drains has been propose in this project. There

is one major T junction with NH-05 at the start of the project. NH- 05 is being upgraded

by NHAI on Hybrid – Annuity mode. Proper access by way of providing a fly over of 3

span of 20 m each (NH-05 to be elevated) is required at this junction. Till the

construction of this fly over a properly designed junction is required at this location. The
matter needs to be co ordinated by Punjab Govt. with NHAI. For the safety of commuter

metal crash barrier along the proposed irrigation channel has been considered.

In addition to the other road furniture two number cantilever type gantraries have been

proposed at start the project. The silent features of the proposal are as follow.
