The History of Ilgan

Spanish era. The Jesuits replaced the Recollects in 1639. Iligan was the Spaniards' base of operations in
attempting to conquer and Christianize the Lanao area throughout its history. A stone fort called Fort St. Francis Xavier
was built in 1642 where Iliganons sought refuge during raids by bandits.

Iligan, officially the City of Iligan, (Cebuano: Dakbayan sa Iligan; Filipino: Lungsod ng Iligan), or
referred to as Iligan City, is a 1st class highly urbanized city in Northern Mindanao, Philippines. According to
the 2015 census, it has a population of 342,618 people. It is geographically within the province of Lanao del
Norte but administered independently from the province. It was once part of Central Mindanao (Region 12)
until the province was moved under Northern Mindanao (Region 10) in 2001.

The City of Waterfalls
Maria Cristina Falls is a waterfall of the Agus River on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. It is a
landmark of Iligan City, nicknamed the City of Majestic Waterfalls, because of the presence of more than
20 waterfalls in the city.

Kasaysayan sa lungsod ng Iligan


Sa nayon ng Bayug nagsimula ang lungsod ng Iligan, apat (4) na kilometro hilaga ng kasalukuyang
Poblacion. Ito ang naging pinakaunang pamayanan ng mga katutubo bago dumating ang mga Kastila. Nabago
ang kadalisayan ng lahi ng mga taal na mamamayan ng lugar nang magsimulang magdatingan noong huling
bahagi ng ika-16 na dantaon ang mga dayong Bisaya mula sa kaharian sa pulo ng Panglao.
