ABSTRACT
A MOOC that is massive open online courses is an online course aimed at unlimited
participation and open access via the web. Along with the traditional course material such as
filmed lectures, readings and problem sets, many MOOC provide interactive courses.

This study aimed at knowing the awareness of MOOC among the students pursuing the higher
level of education. For that purpose an online survey was conducted to collect the primary data.
The questionnaire set to collect the primary information aimed at knowing the percentage of
people knowing about MOOC and if they are already availing it’s facility then what drives them
to use it ,whether it is it’s time flexibility or easy accessibility or world class professors or
something else.

LITERATURE REVIEW
In India ,IITs, IIMs & several top notch private universities have are already offering courses
using courser & edX to their students (MOOCs in Indian university education system: a study on
awareness & motivation among students & teachers on Indian universities).

The ministry of human resource development signed a memorandum of understanding with the
ministry of higher education, Afghanistan to work on digital education initiatives that will
include many programs developed by Indian Institute of technology. IIT Madras will also be a
part of the collaborations. The fields of cooperation include: sharing of online education
platform, named ‘study webs of active learning for young and aspiring minds (SWAYAM)
developed by Government of India, facilitating use of massive open online courses (MOOC)
available in SWAYAM platform (ECONOMIC TIMES).

Though the IT infrastructure has improved a lot in the city but the basic infrastructure needed to
implement MOOC s is still absent in many colleges and campuses (Shramistha Pramanik 2018).

India among top 5 revenue generators for coursera ( ECONOMIC TIMES).

Future performance and sustenance of any digital learning platforms inexorably coupled with
learners preferences and their better learning experiences. To provide a digital learner with
necessary curriculum, innovation courses, better interactive digital tools, personal services along
with effective evaluation will assure a supplementary learning through digital platform. This
would encourage learners to kow the real happenings in the educational arena ( DR. R.A.

INTRODUCTION

MOOC that is massive open online courses is a platform that provides the various online courses.
The number of the MOOC users is increasing g day by day. There are number of reasons that
contribute for the increasing popularity of the MOOC. For some it’s easy accessibility or time
flexibility is the reason to use it while for some others the lectures by the world class professors
attract them to avail the MOOC platform.

Today not the students are using the MOOC platform but the professionals to succeed further in
their career keep themselves enrolled in various courses at the MOOC platform so that they can
walk shoulder to shoulder with their peers and won’t lag behind.

Seeing the popularity of the online education platform a number of well known institutes are
doing tie ups with various online educational platform like courser to launch their courses online.

Today MOOCs are going way beyond to attract the people towards it. They are coming with a
number of innovative ideas to retain the customer. That is the reason why the revenue generation
of the coursera from it’s India market is among the top 5 .

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

For my research I used the primary one.

Primary research is a new research, carried out to answer specific issues or questions. It can
involve questionnaires, surveys or interviews with individuals or small groups.

For doing the primary research I prepared a questionnaire that had all the possible question that
could have me helped to find out the behavior of the students doing professional courses towards
MOOC.

The questionnaire consists of the following questions:

Educational qualification?

Do you prefer studying online?

From where do you get to know about MOOC?

What would be some of the characteristic of a MOOC that would interest you?

What motivates you to avail the MOOC?

What would you expect from an instructor of MOOC?

These are some of the questions of the questionnaire.

CONCLUSION

Through my study I can conclude that there is huge increase in the number of the students who
are availing the MOOC platform for studying. There is definitely a scope of awareness among
the students regarding it .But the awareness number has increased for sure. And it’s popularity is
getting increase day by day because of the various benefits that the MOOCs provide like time
flexibility, easy accessibility etc.
