My First Accident

I was driving about 35 mph in my Subaru. I noticed that the light turned green at the

intersection in front of me. I drove without paying enough attention to the car ahead of me which

was still stopped at the intersection. When I noticed their brake lights, I realized how fast I was

going. I immediately slammed on my breaks. They locked up, and I slid on the dewey roads into

the car in front of me.

My body threw towards my steering wheel only to get pulled back by my seatbelt. I heard

the loud crunch and everything suddenly stopped. Once my body fell back into the seat I looked

around. “Shit...” I whispered to myself. I took the keys out of my ignition and opened my door to

step outside. I felt slightly disoriented. I glanced down at my car and realized that I had nearly

totaled it. I looked up and stared at the car that I just hit. My mind scrambling to find answers for

what I had done.

I noticed the driver slowly open the door then the passenger open theirs. They both

stepped out simultaneously. I asked if they were okay. The women who stepped out of the

drivers side said yes and the young man from the passengers side nodded. She asked if I was

alright as well. I told her that I am, and how remorseful I was for hitting their car. The lady said

it was fine as long as everyone is ok. As she walked over to me I could tell that she noticed I was

shaking nervously.

She continued to assure me that the car in front of her had not been moving. Although, I

knew it had been my fault. I walked back to my car to get my insurance out of my glove box. I

called my mother and told her what had happened. She sounded very calm and reassuring that it

was ok, and to call my dad to have him pick me up. Then she will have a tow truck come.
I exchanged my drivers license and insurance with the other driver. We both took

pictures then returned them to each other. I sat on the curb to call my dad and explain my

situation. Three of my friends that had been together drove past me. They turned around and

parked near me to stay and wait for my parents to arrive. The other driver that I had hit made

sure I was alright before they drove away. Once they were gone I went back to my car to try to

park as close to the curb as I could.

A police officer saw me and pulled over behind my thrashed car. I got up to brush

myself off. He asked what had happened and if anyone was on their way to come get me. I

explained what had happened. I told him that my father should be there any minute. The officer

walked back to his car to sit. He pulled off and drove away after what seemed like five minutes.

By then, I was sobbing uncontrollably. I had thought I could hold it in, but I couldn't. My friends

tried talking me through it and comforting me. However, I knew I had done something bad that I

couldn't undo.

My dad finally pulled up and parked close to where my friends has parked. He walked

over and told me to drive my car into the parking lot. I started my car and realized as I was

steering, it felt as if the wheel was getting impossible to rotate. I lugged the wheel best I could to

park into a spot. When I was done, I sat and mourned over my car before I got out.

I noticed my mom had arrived and parked next to me. I got out and walked towards her.

My mom called a tow truck and told me to go home with my dad. I walked over to my friends

who had pulled over, to say my goodbyes and tell them I was so grateful to have them in my life.

I gave my friends and family a hug and shared my gratitude. I walked to my dads car; sat in the

passenger seat to leave and go home with him for the night.
