Industrialization and urban development is inevitable in an era controlled mostly by

technology. Along with the convenient effects of global modernization comes an impediment that

burdens a great percentage of the population. Car prices in the Philippines significantly drop

making it easier for Filipinos to possess a supposed to be luxurious item. The increasing number

of vehicles induces pressure on traffic movements thereby creating a dilemma that affects the

lifestyle of every citizen utilizing the road. Manual data gathering to solve this issue involves

numerous hours and requires intensive labor. The study takes advantage of the favorable effects
of modernization to help alleviate its detrimental effects. Hence, using an advanced tool like

Geographic Information System (GIS) will make data gathering, manipulation and analysis less

difficult. This study aims to analyze traffic condition along M.J. Cuenco Ave., Cebu City using

Arc-GIS computer software. This allows data variables to be displayed in a manner that can be

easily interpreted.

This study will conclude with the presentation of the computed data gathered from raw

vehicular count that the road segment from the intersection of M.J Cuenco Ave – Gen. Maxilom

Ave. to M.J Cuenco Ave. – Juan Luna Ave. has a moderate to heavy flow of traffic. Along with

the pointed factors that affect the flow of traffic along the segment, recommendations will be laid

out in order to lessen if not eliminate the dilemma.
