ALBA PEDROZA

DEAR READER,
My name is Alba Pedroza, this year as a writer I accomplished many things. I have

completed and turned in all of my writing assignments which is something that was hard

for me before I came into my final year of high school. Another thing I feel that I

conquered was going to all the tutoring sessions whenever they were available. I learned

how to make a resume; that will help me in the upcoming months when I apply for a job.

In general, I feel that the body of work in my portfolio was manageable. I thought to

myself is all this revising and reflecting worth it and it was. The essay I am most proud of

is Macbeth’s theme seen in society. I’m proud of it because I put a lot of work and

dedication into it and learned a lot of things about corruption that I thought I’d never learn

from society. By having my amazing English teacher Ms. Figueroa, she gave me hope and

motivation. Before having her, I did not have hope in myself I thought I was not capable

of brainstorming, typing a good essay or learn great values within myself. What I want

others to know about me as a writer and a learner is that I am creative, a hard worker and I

put effort into everything I do no matter the struggle. The piece that I am most surprised

with is a poem I wrote about myself. Having the opportunity to reflect about my

background, likes and dislikes. I rarely take the time to think about the things that intrigue

me and what interests me. When writing the poem, I found that it was a little difficult

since it also had to rhyme. To my surprise I was able to put all my ideas in, and make it

rhyme. I completed the poem and got the credit I needed to maintain my grade. Also the
themes and ideas I have noticed in my writings are that I somehow find a way to tie the

topic to real life situations and lessons us as people have learned in the real world. Some

of my writing accomplishments that I’ve made this year and will use in the upcoming

months when I attend community college are advanced vocabulary and important details

that will intrigue my audience; that is something that I lacked in my writing assignments

in the past years. I realized that having a teacher that cares about her students and their

education is different and it helped a lot. There are moments in class when I would be

feeling stressed and Ms. Figueroa giving me words of encouragement that made me feel

motivated and strong. Building a good bond with one of my teachers is something that I

thought I would never experience. Prior to coming into my senior year I never set writing

goals for myself until last semester. I promised myself I was going to turn in every writing

assignment I had and not having missing work, which I have followed through the whole

year. Improving my grammar is also something I have bettered, brainstorming and starting

my essay has become fairly easier to me. I want to thank Ms. Figueroa; she means a lot to

me and made a difference in my education. I see writing in a different way now and can

have fun learning new things.

Sincerely ,

Alba Pedroza
