What are the layers of


a leaf?
Leaves are organs made of cells and tissues. The diagram below
shows a cross-section of a leaf. The epidermis tissue is like your
skin. It protects the plant. The spongy tissue has spaces that air can
pass through. Leaf openings at the bottom of the leaf let air in and
out of the spongy tissue. The vessel tissue carries food and water
throughout the plant.
