The Target Field Trip Grant is one that interests me and I feel would be beneficial to my

classroom. This grant is managed and administered by Scholarship America to K-12

public, private or charter school in the U.S..

Scholarship America will evaluate applications and award grants based on the following
criteria:

● Applicant's description of the field trip and its objectives

● Benefits to the students, including overall student learning experience, relevance
to curriculum and number of students who may benefit from the grant
● Proposed use of funds
● Trip to be taken between January 1, 2019 and the end of the 2018-19 academic
year (May/June 2019)

If I were to be awarded the Target Field Trip Grant I would use it to organize and
execute meaningful experiences for my Kindergarten class. There are many things
students cannot experience sitting in a classroom. I feel that real world experiences are
the best teaching tools. I would use this grant to ensure that every student had the
opportunity to join their class on these trips. The North Carolina state standard K.l.1.
states students should be able to compare characteristics of animals that make them
alike and different from other animals and nonliving things. Visiting a zoo and aquarium
would be a much more impactful way to teach this concept to children rather than
pictures or videos of animals. Visiting an apple orchard or a farm would support the
standard K.L.3. stating students should be able to understand characteristics of different
environments and behaviors of humans that enable plants and animals to survive.
Taking students to a science museum where technology is used to simulate changing
weather and seasons would be a way to enforce the state standard K.E.1 that states
students should be able to understand change and observable patterns of weather that
occur day to day and throughout the year. Overall, my students would greatly benefit
from getting out of the classroom to learn objectives in a real life sense after first being
exposed to it by technology in the classroom. Their knowledge would be enforced by
meaningful experiences that will stick with them longer than any video or presentation.
Receiving this grant would benefit many kindergarten students in learning concepts in a
deeper way that will set the foundation of their education.
