securing knowledge and skills needed in making plans and services, and in interpreting life.

Research is a guidance function where the counsellor develops and implements research plans
that generate empirical data about students and students life that could be used to inform
policy and decision – making in the school, especially on matters relevant to student welfare
and development, and to inform the direction and suitability of the various guidance services, as
well as of the other student services and programs provided. This is also the guidance office’s
contribution to curriculum- building where the results of the research will be presented to
school administrators and faculty members to give them an idea on how to best help the
students.
Evaluation on the other hand is a guidance function where the counsellor develop and
implement assessment and evaluation plans that would provide soft and hard data on the
quality, results, and impact of the various student services and programs. Evaluation data can
be used as basis for enhancement of existing programs and development of new programs.
Guidance services and the guidance program itself is evaluated in terms of its affectivity and its
capacity to meet the student’s need and address their concerns. The results of the evaluation
are presented at the end of the school year through a yearend report submitted to the
