Humans are social beings who live and run all activities as individuals in social groups,
communities, organizations and communities. In everyday life, every human interacts with each
other. Therefore, humans cannot avoid an actioncalled communic. Communication is an
interpersonal interaction that uses a system of linguistic symbols, such as a verbal system (words),
verbal and non verbal. This system can be socialized directly / face to face or through other media
(writing, oral and visual). Realized or no, communication is part of human life itself.ation.
on the other hand, to build a familiar sense of humanity, mutual understanding is needed
among fellow community members. in this case communication plays an important role, especially
for modern humans. Modern humans are human beings whose ways of thinking are based on logic,
rationality, or reasoning in carrying out all their activities.the whole activity will be carried out well
through interpersonal communication. the success or failure of communication is when we know
and learn the elements contained in the communication process (Nugroho, 2009: 12)
communication is a very special and meaningful process in human relations. in the nursing
profession for Abdalati (1989) communication becomes more meaningful because it is the main
method in implementing the nursing process. science experience to help others requires special
abilities and great social care. for that according to jhonson (1989), nurses need special abilities and
social care that include intellectual, technical and interpersonal skills reflected in caring or love / love
behavior in communication with others.nurses who have therapeutic communication skills will
not only be easy to establish a relationship of trust with clients, prevent the occurrence of
legal problems, provide professional satisfaction in nursing services and improve the image
of the nursing profession and the image of the hospital, but the most important is to practice
their knowledge fellow human beings (purba, 2003:1)
therapeutic communication
communication is a process of sending and receiving messages.Communication is the
of sending and receving masages"(burce dkk. 2003:3). through this process, information and
understanding are continued using symbols. Prosea consists of five elements, namely
communicator, message, media, recipient and feedback. "thegeneral process of
communication contains five elements: the comunicator, the massage, the medium, the
receiver, and feedback".
stuart G.W and sundeen S.J (1995) states that therapeutic communication is an
iterpersonal relationship between nurses and clients, in this case nurses and clients obtain
bersma learning experience in order to improve the client's emotional experience. whereas,
S.sundeen (1990) states that a therapeutic relationship is a cooperative relationship
characterized by exchange of behavior.

Every nursing activity always begins with communicationbetween nurses and patients
with the aim of establishing relationshipsinterpersonal, so that the nursing process can run
well and effectively. In therapeutic communication, Taylor, Lilis and LeMone (1993) state
that the relationship carried out aims to provide help toovercome the problems faced by
patients. An effective tool in this case is thepersonal nurse. Related insideproviding nursing
care, nurses must be client-oriented. Therefore, nurses must be able to see problemsthe
client is facing from the client's perspective. To be able todoing this nurses must understand
and have the ability to listen actively and attentively.

Before communicating, the nurse must firstdo self analysis. This analysis includes self
awareness, value classification, feeling exploration, ability to be a model, and a sense of
responsibility.

Nurse as an instrument in therapeutic communication must be able to know his
personality well. He must be aware who he is.
