ATA 21 – AIR CONDITIONING

21-10-01A (ALL) – Air cycle system

1. Placard

A. Put an AIR CYCLE SYSTEM INOPERATIVE placard in a position on the instrument panel where it is
visible to the flight crew.

2. Maintenance (M)

None required.

3. Operations (O)

MSN 101 – 888:

A. Before the flight, prepare the airplane to operate in unpressurized configuration:


1. Set ECS switch to OFF.
2. Pull the ECS emergency shut off lever.
B. Perform the flight at an altitude not exceeding 10,000 ft. AMSL.
Note: If required, the flight crew should adjust the flight duration depending on the operating
conditions (e.g. temperature, number of aircraft occupants, etc.) to ensure that the available
fresh air inflow provides a suitable and comfortable environment for the occupants.

MSN 1001 and up:

A. Before the flight, prepare the airplane to operate in unpressurized configuration:


1. Set ACS switch to the INHIBIT position.
2. Pull the ACS emergency shut off lever.
B. Perform the flight at an altitude not exceeding 10,000 ft. AMSL.
Note: If required, the flight crew should adjust the flight duration depending on the operating
conditions (e.g. temperature, number of aircraft occupants, etc.) to ensure that the available
fresh air inflow provides a suitable and comfortable environment for the occupants.

C. Make a record in the maintenance records.

A. Put a PRESSURISATION SYSTEM INOPERATIVE placard in a position near the Pressurisation controls
where it is visible to the flight crew.

A. Before the flight, prepare the airplane to operate in unpressurised configuration:


1. Press DUMP switch.
2. Open the hinged service panel (11BR) on the right side of the fuselage and visually confirm that
the outflow valve is fully open. The butterfly valve must be in the horizontal position.
3. Pull the following CBs:

Circuit Breaker BUS


CPCS CH. 1 EPS BUS
CPCS CH. 2 MAIN BUS

B. Perform the flight at an altitude not exceeding 10,000 ft. AMSL.


Note: The ACS may be used normally to provide conditioned air to the cabin.

A. Put an EMERGENCY DUMP INOPERATIVE placard in a position near the Pressurization Controls where
it is visible to the flight crew.

2. Maintenance (M)

MSN 101 – 888:

A. Remove the Safety valve (Aircraft Maintenance Manual 12-A-21-30-02-00A-920A-A).


B. Install caps on all disconnected pneumatic lines.
C. Make a record in the maintenance records.

MSN 1001 and up:

None required.

3. Operations (O)

MSN 101 – 888:

A. Perform the flight at an altitude not exceeding 10,000 ft AMSL.


Note: The ECS may be used normally to provide conditioned air to the cabin.

MSN 1001 and up:

A. Before the flight, prepare the airplane to operate in unpressurized configuration:


1. Press DUMP switch.

Pull the "TOILET" circuit breaker (CABIN BUS).
D. Latch the lavatory door closed and put an “INOPERATIVE-DO NOT USE” placard on the door. Install
the placard in such a manner that it is not possible to operate the door without disturbing the
placard.

switch in the cockpit. The second person observes the aileron trim tab movement.

MSN 101 – 683:

A. Operate the trim tab through the full range of travel:


1. Check that the aileron trim tab moves through the full range of travel.
2. Check that the operation is not restricted.
B. Make sure the aileron control is centred. Install the gust lock.
C. Operate the trim so that the top surface of the aileron trim tab aligns with the top surface of the
aileron (take-off setting).
D. Do not change the aileron trim setting on the ground before take-off. After take-off the aileron trim
may be operated as required.

MSN 684 and up:

A. Operate the trim tab through the full range of travel:


1. Check that the aileron trim tab moves through the full range of travel.
2. Check that the operation is not restricted.
B. Make sure the aileron control is centred. Install the yoke gust lock.
C. Operate the trim so that the trailing edge of the aileron trim tab is approximately 6 mm up,
measured from the centre of the trim tab trailing edge to the centre of the aileron trailing edge
(take-off setting).
D. Remove the gust lock. Do not change the aileron trim setting on the ground before take-off. After
take-off the aileron trim may be operated as required.

to the system inoperability then no dispatch is permissible.

MSN 101 – 683:

A. Make sure the aileron control is centered. Install the gust lock.
B. Make sure that that the top surface of the aileron trim tab aligns with the top surface of the aileron
(take-off setting).
C. Pull the "AIL TRIM" circuit breaker (BATTERY BUS).
D. Remove the gust lock.

MSN 684 and up:

A. Make sure the aileron control is centered. Install the yoke gust lock.
B. Make sure that the aileron trim tab is approximately 6 mm up, measured from the center of the trim
tab trailing edge to the center of the aileron trailing edge (take-off setting).
C. Pull the "AIL TRIM" circuit breaker (BATTERY BUS).
D. Remove the gust lock.

3. Operations (O)

A. At intervals not exceeding 20 minutes make sure there are no indications of a potential fuel
imbalance (increased aileron control forces). Disconnect the autopilot, if used, for this check.
Note: If there are indications of a potential fuel imbalance, use fuel transfer to balance the fuel.
Land as soon as practical.
