current world champion Magnus Carlsen; In
addition, Caruana is number 1 in the United
States.
As of July 2015 he stops representing Italy
before FIDE and changes to the United States Chess Federation.
It was undoubtedly the revelation of 2012, thanks to the unstoppable rise
in the Elo rosters while playing tournament of all levels, including open -
usually avoided by the majority of world elite players.
In 2012 he finished second in Wijk aan Zee, second in the Tal Memorial,
first in Dortmund and second in Bilbao (losing in the tiebreak with Carlsen).
He started badly in 2013, falling in Wijk aan Zee, where he lost five games.
But he soon regained his form in the GRENKE Chess Classic and with a
great victory in the Zurich Chess Challenge ahead of Anand, Kramnik and
Gelfand.
In 2014, in the Sinquefield Cup, he achieved the best result of his career
and one of the best performances of all time: First with 8.5 out of 10, three
points over Magnus Carlsen, including a fantastic initial streak of 7 games
consecutive that impressed the world of chess.
2014 and 2015 were surely his most prolific years, in which he participated
in dozens of tournaments and made excellent performances. In January
he participated in the Masters tournament of Tata Steel, obtaining the
fourth position behind Aronian, Giri and Karjakin. Already in February, he
participated in the combined event of the Zurich Chess Challenge (slow +
fast chess), where he won a meritorious second place behind the winner,
