A Recap of my English 1302 Class

This semester has taught me a great deal about myself and my writing process through

failure and success. The quality of writing that is demonstrated in my first two essays was most

definitely not anywhere near exemplary, and their grades reflected that. Yet, from these failures,

I learned a lot about the areas of my writing process that need improving. That being said, the top

three things that I have improved on throughout this semester have been my editing skills, my

research process, and my time management techniques.

One of the key components of my writing process that has gotten better throughout this

semester are my editing skills. When I first began the semester, I would typically write my rough

drafts, and then only fix grammatical errors for my final draft. While this process still allowed

for my final drafts to be better than the rough drafts, the content and flow of the essay was not

improving. In order to improve my quality of writing throughout the semester, I began to edit the

way through which the concepts and ideas were presented in the essay. This was achieved

through the analyzation of how ideas were supported with examples, and how the ideas were

organized throughout the essay.

My research process was another key component of my writing that got better throughout

the semester. In the first few essays, I would utilize the first relatively reliable source that I found

without doing much research about the author or without looking for other alternative websites.

As the semester progressed, the depth and accuracy of my research quotes improved due to

deeper analyzation of sources. I would look into various sources and use the one with the most

reliable author and credentials. This greatly elevated the content of my essays by improving the

quality and accuracy of the research on which it was based on.

The main area of my writing process that improved throughout the course of the semester

are my time management skills. Taking the time to plan the different stages of my writing

process allowed me to have a calmer writing process. At the beginning of the year I would

procrastinate a lot. This would make me rush to write the essay and not spend the adequate time

to edit and produce quality content.

The main concept that can be observed throughout these improvements is the dedication

of following the process correctly. Taking the time to edit, research, and manage my essays

thoroughly had a huge impact in their quality. Just like in writing, taking the time to do things

right is important. Whether it be while practicing, keeping my morals, or praying, taking the time

to do them right will make a huge different.When these concepts are applied to all the aspects of

my life, they will help me become the best version of myself.
