LESSON PLAN Subject: Math

Trainee: Mariam Mohammed Topic or Theme:

H00292379 Array.

Class: Grade 3 Date & Duration: 4 March 2019

Trainee Personal Goals

time management: I will use timer to manage my time and finish on time.

Lesson Focus
How to solve mathematical problems by drawing an array.

Lesson Outcomes
Students will use an array to solve multiplication sentences.

Links to Prior Learning

 In Grade 2 students used repeated addition as a way to calculate “how many” for groupings
of numbers other that 2, 5, or 10 and repeated subtraction to subtraction to determine “how
many” when objects are shared equally. In Grade 3 students develop this technique to
include repeated addition of larger numbers and to larger totals
 Students should be using a mental strategy to find the answer, developing methods to
mentally “track” repeated addition or subtraction of numbers – This is likely to be a finger
count – using one or both hands.
 Initially students may use multi link cubes, counters or arrays to represent repeated addition
or repeated subtraction to check their answers or to “count” their additions.
21st Century Skills
Creativity students will aswer their questions by using cubes and stickey color papers.
Collaboration: the students who in developing level they will work together and help each other.
Communication: the students will discuss their answer in pairs.

TASKS/ACTIVITIES
Resources
Introduction
& Time
5 minutes  Tr: today we will learn new strategy but first can you tell me any
strategy you used before to solve multiplication table?
- Video.  Tr will choose one students randomly.
 Tr: can you come and show me an example?
 Tr: its right? Thumps up or thumps down.
 Today we will learn about new strategy its how to use array. But
first we will watch a video together.
 The teacher will put a video about array.
 And she will stop in each part of the video to explain or to give
comments.

Resources
Main activities
& Time
 The teacher will display a PowerPoint slides that has equations
and pictures in groups and rows.
10 minutes.  Teacher will display an pictures in groups and ask the students
“this is an array? Thumps up if yes, thumps down if no”.
- Whiteboard.
 Then the teacher will display an equations and the students will
- Smartboard.
work in pairs.
- PowerPoint.
 The students will write their answer in the whiteboard.
 Then, the teacher will choose one students randomly to come
and solve the equation in the smartboard.

(15 minutes)

Emergent Activity:
 The students will work individually.
 Each student will have worksheets and cubes.
 They will have 10 equations.
 Under the question will be pictures of cubes. And the students should to find the answer
and write it.
 The other questions will have equations and missing cubes so the students will think
about the answer and put the missing cubes.

Developing activity:
 Students will work in a group.
 The teacher will give the students a equations card and array card.
 Students will match the equations with the array card.

Mastered Activity :
 Students will work individually.
 The teacher will give the students worksheets and stickey color papers.
 The worksheet includes equations, and the students will make the array by using sticky
color papers.
 And some of the questions will have rows and they will write the equations.

Differentiation activities (Stretch)

 Finish early: the teacher will give the students worksheets that have questions.
 Special need: the teacher will give the student worksheet and the students will match the
equations to the right array. After that, when the students finish she will start color the
pictures.
Resources
& Time Plenary/Conclusion

5 minutes.  The teacher will give each student a card with equations and card with
arrays.
 Students will write the equation or draw an array.
 Then they will write their name in the paper, and they will give the
teacher.
