1. La Navidad: Celebrated from December 12th to January 6th. A lot of people celebrate
the days leading up to La Navidad, with posadas or “inns” to symbolize how Joseph and
Mary had nowhere to stay. After eating, many kids play with chispitas (sparklers), smoke
bombs, and firecrackers.

2. Three Kings Day: celebrated twelve days after Christmas. The day celebrates the three
wise men's visit to baby Jesus and his baptism. It’s also known as Día de Los Reyes.

3. Day of the Dead: It's a celebration of life, not death. It originated in Mexico and

Central America. The ofrenda is important. If a person’s picture isn’t on the ofrenda, they
can’t come visit their living family.

15. Choose three of the following people and write a brief description about him/her (at
least 3 sentences for each): Cesar Chavez, Porfirio Diaz, Miguel Hidalgo, Benito Juarez,
Jose Maria Morelos, Alvera Obregon, Jose Orozco, Diego Rivera. Google them, and use
credible (.gov, .edu, .org OR your textbook) sources.
1. Miguel Hidalgo: Miguel Hidalgo, was a Mexican Roman Catholic priest and a leader of the
Mexican War of Independence. He was born born May 8, 1753 and he died July 30, 1811.
He’s the man who rang the bell for Mexico’s independence.

2. Cesar Chavez: Cesar Chavez was a union leader and labor organizer. He was born on
March 31, 1927, near Yuma, Arizona. Chavez dedicated his life to improving the treatment,
pay and working conditions for farm workers.

3. Porfirio Diaz: Porfirio Diaz was a Mexican general and politician. He served seven terms
as President of Mexico. He ruled over Mexico for 35 years, from 1876 to 1911.

country and give details about why you would choose to visit there.
