the most fabulous
lessons I learned early

standards for my kids
because my first year, I
was worried about
expecting too much
from them. However,
when I set the
standards higher, I
found that my students
were totally up to the
task of reaching for the
stars and I now
maintain high
standards for my kids,
while providing them
the tools and
knowledge of how best
to strive for success. I
also continue to reflect
on my own practice as
a teacher to ensure
that I am always
evolving and doing the
best for my students.

happening in our class
and to keep them
involved. At our school,

have many

that we do when their
kids take them home.
It’s very important for
me to have our parents
feel included and to see
the work that their
kids are putting into
their learning. Quite
frequently, one way
that we keep families
CSTP 6: Developing as a Professional Educator
engaged is by asking
the kids to become the
“experts” and teach
their parents about
what they have learned
in class. In this way,
our parents remain
actively involved in our
school and our
learning. Traditionally,
our parents are very
achievement oriented
and because I come
from the same faith
background, I am very
well aware of their
expectations and/or
concerns. I work very
diligently to make sure
that I communicate
with them openly and
am available to answer
any questions or
discuss any of their
concerns. I feel that my
parents really
appreciate my
transparency as a
teacher and keeping
them in the loop has
been a great way to
help my parents feel
engaged in our classes.

easy going and try to
make necessary tasks
fun. I still hold my
colleagues accountable
for their work in a kind
and professional way
and will help in any
way possible to help
them achieve their
goals. I still send out
our weekly “Monday
Memes” to help start
the week with a smile
and my colleagues
really appreciate it. I
think that having an
overall upbeat and
positive attitude at
school really makes the
day brighter for myself,
and I really value the
opportunity to make
the day easier/brighter
for anyone else!

As Lighthouse
Coordinator this year, I
feel really blessed to be
able to interact with
and support my
colleagues in a way
that I have not been a
CSTP 6: Developing as a Professional Educator
part of before. It is very
gratifying, after being
at our school for 4
years, to be a mentor
and to help my new
colleagues acclimate
and understand the
traditions and
expectations at our
school. It is important
for me to always model
respectful and
professional behavior
with my peers, but also
to be friends and be a
kind ear to listen when
they need support or
just to vent. I have
stated earlier that I
have instated my own
ways to keep morale
and motivation high
amongst teachers. This
includes a weekly
email of funny memes
to keep our teachers
laughing together and
dropping treats to
teachers (everyone
loves chocolate!) when
they are having a
rough time. I think that
it is a blessing to have a
positive mindset and if
I can share it with
others around me, I
CSTP 6: Developing as a Professional Educator
think that a little bit of
sunshine goes a long
way! As a mentor, I
have also been
afforded a unique
opportunity to provide
real support and
scaffolds for
homeroom teachers
when it comes to
implementing the
leadership initiatives
that it is my role to
design. By listening to
teacher feedback and
making different
processes very “user
friendly” I can ensure
that my teachers are
able to take the
material to the kids
and help ensure their
students’ success.

Our school is an Independent Faith-Based School and
I am very cognizant of the important link that our
faith has with our profession. I see my position as a
teacher as an opportunity to have a positive influence
on the new generation of young Muslims and I take
that very seriously. Each year the new batch of
students becomes a part of my “family” and I believe
in having a strong sense of trust with them. We have
mutual respect and I model a high standard of
personal integrity to help guide them to do the same
in their lives. I strive to do my best in all of my
professional endeavors and bring my faith and the
ethics that come along with it to school every day.

We have a very respectful and cohesive community of

staff and teachers. I go out of my way to get to know
new teachers and maintain friendships with other
colleagues to help keep a consistently congenial
relationship with all. Last year, I began sending out
“Monday Memes” to make our staff smile and send
them out weekly. Many of the staff really appreciate
those light-hearted emails and tell me that they look
forward to them each week! I see it as a way that I can
help boost morale among the teachers and staff when
the year becomes more challenging.

As a staff, we all model a high degree of integrity and

ethical conduct. I do my best to uphold the high
standards that I have for myself each day because I
see it as my opportunity to help teach my students to

do the same. I look at my position as a teacher not
only to teach my students their academic material,
but also to show them how to live a respectful life and
God Willing, make the world a better place ☺ 9/25/17

My professional responsibility, ethical conduct, and

integrity are very important points in my everyday
teaching practice. I try to utilize all of my time at
school in the best way, and align my actions with my
goal of making the world a better place by inspiring
and guiding this generation of students. We are a faith
based school and so while my investment in the
school is in one way to better my professional growth,
it is also to help raise a new generation of American
Muslims who are proud of their identity and use their
considerable influence to positively impact our
community. By holding myself up to very high
standards, setting goals for myself and striving to
always achieve them, and by modeling professional
and responsible behavior for my kids, I see every day
as an opportunity to do my best. Maintaining these
standards is a huge part of my personal mission
statement as a teacher :) 4/30/18

I am very blessed to work in a positive and upbeat

environment, with an exceptional group of educators
who maintain high standards for themselves and
professional integrity. Our faith teaches us to work
hard and to strive for the best; our motto as a staff
and school is “Excellence in Everything”. I strive to
model this behavior each day at school and to teach
my students about excellence, motivation,
commitment, and perseverance each day. At our
school, I have been so excited to take on a leadership
role as Lighthouse Coordinator and it has really
afforded me the opportunity to work with many staff
that I did not get to as a homeroom teacher. We work
well together and collaborate respectfully. We hold
each other accountable kindly, but also always work
to support one another. Our community of educators
make it easy for me to maintain my spark for

education and I feel truly blessed to work with such
an amazing team in a community that holds standards
high, but kindness, love, and faith the highest :)

As I said earlier, it is a blessing to have a positive

mindset and to enjoy coming to work each and
every day. I am blessed to work with outstanding
colleagues who all have the same commitment to
student learning as I do. This makes our
environment very supportive as teachers and
keeps us all motivated together. I have worked to
establish myself as a support and mentor within
our community of educators and to keep the tone
of our days positive and uplifted. Fostering an
atmosphere of mutual respect has led to very
positive and enjoyable environment at our
school. We support each other as we would our
students and my colleagues have become like
family :) 3/29/19
