LESSON PLAN Subject: Math

Trainee: Topic or Theme: Pattern and Algebra

Class: Grade 4 Date & Duration: February 20,2019

Trainee Personal Goals

I am working on: time management by give the student for each part of the lesson a 15 minute
and put a timer to control my lesson.

Lesson Focus

How to determine pattern and algebra?

Lesson Outcomes

Students will be able to build, draw and continue simple increasing patterns involving
arrangements of manipulatives and find missing elements.

Links to Prior Learning

In Grade 3, students were introduced to increasing patterns with groups of objects for the
first time. The groups of objects used were counters, blocks, towers of cubes etc. In Grade
4, they progress to arrangements of manipulatives such as matchstick patterns e.g.
21st Century Skills

Creativity students need to draw the pattern on paper.

For Developing, students need to continue the pattern by building and drawing the next few
terms.

TASKS/ACTIVITIES
Resources
Introduction
& Time
 The teacher will ask the students What they know about the pattern ?
 Ss: will answer.
 The teacher will ask for example .
 Ss: will write the example on the board.
Resources
Main activities
& Time
 TR: will draw on board a table to record information about the
pattern in the table by using the multiplication table 2 ,3,4.
 TR: will give an example how to build and draw simple increasing
patterns involving arrangements of manipulatives by using
multiplication table 2.
 TR: will explain an example how to build, draw and continue simple
increasing patterns involving arrangements of manipulatives by
using multiplication table 3.
 TR: will explain an example how to build, draw and continue simple
increasing patterns involving arrangements of manipulatives and
find missing elements by using multiplication table 4.

Differentiation activities (Support)

Emergent Activity:

This activity for low levels. The teacher will give the students instructions for solving this
activity. First, the teacher will give the students a set of cubes and the multiplication table 2.
Second, The students to complete the pattern according to the results of the multiplication table 2
by using the cubes to build the pattern like a tower. Finally, each student after the completion of
the first activity creates its own design by drawing using the multiplication table 2.

Developing activity:
This activity for a middle level. The teacher will give the students instructions to solve this
activity. First, the teacher will make students into groups and work individually. Second, the
teacher will give the students several materials like a large sheet of paper, a ruler, scissors, black
marker pen and colored paper. Third, the students will use a ruler and black marker pen to create
the graph like sections for each number on the paper and wrote the number. Finally, the students
will use the 3-multiplication table to complete the table by placing squares according to the
answer.

Mastered Activity :

This activity for a high level. The teacher will give the students instructions to solve this activity.
First, the teacher will make students into groups and work individually. Second, the teacher will
give the students several materials like a seeds and set the watermelon slices in the basket.
Finally, the students will use the 4-multiplication table to complete the watermelon slices by
placing seeds according to the answer.

Resources
& Time Plenary/Conclusion

• The last 15 minutes the teacher will pass the exit ticket for all the class .
• They have to build and draw the following pattern.
• If the students get 2\4. that mean they didn’t understand the lesson very
well and if the students get 4\4 or 3\4 that mean the students didn’t have
any understand problems.
