How does the shape of a rocket affect how far the rocket can travel?

Question: How does the different shape of a rocket affect how far the rocket can travel?

Rationale: It will help NASA and all the other space craft people get farther into space.

What we know from our research: We learned that the best launch angle is 45° because it is the
middle of forward and up.

Site we used for research:

Best angle to launch a rocket

Our Hypothesis: We think that the sharp nose with fins will make it go farthest because of aerodynamics,
it will also have the least friction. Also, the fins would make the rocket spiral and we think it would be kind
of like an engine, spiraling to propel the rocket forward.

Materials: Our materials include: cardboard, scissors, protractor, yard stick, boxcutter, hot glue, pencil,
and water/rocket launcher, and an extension cord.

Steps of our experiment: (Numbered steps)

1. We create three rockets

2. We will weigh the rockets with a scale
3. We will try to make the rocket
4. Next, we will wait to get permission to launch and get a teacher to supervise us.
5. Then we launch and write our results in this document.

Our Results:(pictures and graphs)

Model 1. Model 1 went went 7 ½ meters. Anti- went 9 ½ meters. It is
8 meters. All the coned rocket with wings basically just a taped
rockets weigh 79.6 lbs. bottle.
