TYPES OF OHE

MESSENGER WIRE

The Messenger wire shall be of Cadmium


copper, diameter 10.5 mm, consisting of 19
strands, each of 2.1 mm diameter. The nominal
cross section of the Messenger wire is 65 sq.
mm. The messenger wire shall conform to Indian
Railways' RDSO specification No. ETI/OHE/50
(Latest Revision).

diameter 12.24 mm. The contact wire
should be drawn out of continuous cast
rods of minimum diameter of 21mm. The
contact wire shall conform to UIC
specification UIC 870-0/latest RDSO
specification

CONTACT WIRE 150 SQ.MM

The contact wire shall be of 150 sq


mm hard drawn grooved, flat bottom
copper conductor, diameter 13.8 mm.
The contact wire should be drawn out
of continuous cast rods of minimum
diameter of 21 mm. Contact wire shall
conform to UIC specification UIC 870-
0/latest RDSO specification.

RETURN CONDUCTOR

All aluminium conductor (SPIDER) consisting of


19 strands each of 3.99 mm diameter, with a
nominal cross section of 233 sq.mm and a
copper equivalent of 140 sq.mm is used as
Return Conductors.
The overall diameter of conductor is 19.9 mm.
The SPIDER conductor shall conform to Bureau
of Indian Standards, specification IS:398(Part I)-
Latest Revision.

FEEDER WIRE
The following two sizes of feeders will be used, as
required, on the Overhead Catenary System.

• 145 sq mm feeder of Electrolytic copper, consisting of


37 strands, each of 2.24mm diameter, with a nominal
cross section of 145 sq mm and diameter of 15.7mm.

• 262 sq mm feeder of Electrolytic copper, consisting of


37 strands each of 3.0mm diameter, with a nominal
cross section of 262 sq mm and diameter of 21.0 mm.

JUMPERS

Three sizes of jumper wires will be used in the OHE .

1. 164 sq mm jumper of annealed copper,
consisting of 37 strands each strand
containing 7 wires each of 0.9 mm diameter,
with a nominal cross section of 164 sq mm
and diameter of 18.1 mm.

2. 75 sq mm jumper of annealed copper,
consisting of 37 strands each containing 7
wires each of 0.6 mm diameter, with a
nominal cross section of 75 sq mm and
diameter of 12.70 mm. This is used as
Continuity Jumper.

3. 26 sq mm jumper of annealed copper,
consisting of 19 strands, each strand
containing 7 wires each of 0.5 mm diameter,
with a nominal Cross Section of 26 sq mm
and diameter of 7.5 mm. This is used as In-
span jumper.

Bridle wire
• Bridle wire shall be of cadmium copper, consisting of 37
strands each of 1.1mm diameter with a nominal cross
section of 35 sq. mm and overall diameter of 7.7 mm.
The Bridle Wire shall conform to Indian Railway's RDSO
specification ETI/OHE/50, Latest version, for cadmium
copper conductor.

Droppers
• The contact wire is suspended from the messenger wire
by means of droppers made of bronze. In addition, the
Register arm of the cantilever assembly is supported
from the bracket tube by means of a stainless steel
dropper. The following are the details of the droppers
used.

SPAN DROPPERS

• Flexible droppers, made of bronze, consisting of


1 wire of 7 strands each of 0.65 mm diameter
and 6 wires of 7 strands each of 0.54 mm
diameter, with crimped endings with eye on
either end and reinforced automatic clamps
(copper alloy made) on messenger wire and
contact wire, are used as in-span droppers. The
nominal cross sectional area of the droppers is
12 sq. mm and the diameter is 5 mm.

Flexible stainless steel wire, 5 mm


diameter and 19.6 sq. mm cross section
with crimped ending eyes and fixing parts
on either end, will be used as Register arm
dropper

Buried Earth Conductor (BEC)

BEC shall be made of flexible copper conductor


consisting of 7 strands each of 2.5 mm diameter.
The nominal cross sectional area is 35 sq mm
and the overall diameter is 7.5 mm. The BEC
shall conform to Indian Railway's RDSO
specification for "Annealed stranded copper
conductors" (ETI/OHE/3, Latest version) and IS:
9968 (Part 2).

potential connections of all
Reinforcements embedded in the viaduct.

• In Phase – II corridors 93.3 Sq. mm


ACSR conductor which is same as Over

adopted.
