Donnie,...Sure wish I had not removed the pump and sent it off. Also replaced the solonoid that was attached to
the pump.(turned out not to be bad) Both of these moves were on the advice of the local cat dealers
mechanic.Meant well, just inexperienced on 3116's I guess...I've added bonus twice for you, do you get it? Here is
my next question...PRV solonoid.. Does it stand for reducing valve or relief valve and where is it on the machine?

Thanks for the accepts and the bonus' I do appreciate it and more so now since our work is slow here like
everywhere else.
The 322 was sold to contractors that did lots of pipe work. It is to big to be trailered far and to small for the real
heavy pipe (60 inch and over). Other than fuel systems we did not have many repairs. So many 320's were sold,
many think of that model when asked a question and they may get confused on the variations.
The PRV is the Pressure Reduce Valve. It is the solenoid controlled by the ECM to adjust Power Shift pressure.
On the pump You will see three pressure taps to check pressure. Two are in line and close together, these see
pump output pressure for each side of the pump. The third tap is for power shift pressure, it sees the pressure
form the PRV solenoid. Beside that tap is a small hose and it will lead you back to the PRV solenoid on the
manifold. That is how I find it when I need to replace one. It is calibrated to two settings through the monitor. A low
pressure for stall and a high pressure for flow. A gauge and password XXXXX all that is needed to perform this
calibration. The steps are cumbersome but, after a few times it gets easier.
The power shift pressure is high (485 psi) when pump is at standby. It drops to the needed amount when load is
applied to the pump. This is controlled by the ECM base on engine speed and pump pressures.
Even the engine speed sensor can effect output, the ECM will do a best guess if the signal is irregular. Any load
applied gradually, will not stall the engine except at the lowest idle.
I always test fuel pressure first when checking power complaints, it is the most common problem. I like to start
with the cheapest repair first (like filters) before I get into major repairs. Wasting money on a filter is easier than
$1500 injector replacements.
If you have your serial number I can get more detailed information about your machine.

Ok...were on a roll . I'm learning how to use this site. i missed getting your second answer for hours cause I did.t
know where to find it.
The first thing that happened was the motor speeder. (Speeds up the motor when you touch the hydraulics) We
were in great need to use it to load some stuff and so ,put a cable control from the pump into the cab and got the
job finished and then the machine was left alone for months at the job site. i ended up owning the machine and
now I need to use it on another job at the same site. Now that it is mine and I need it to run right ....so I have
several questions..The serial # (I hope) is 9RL00153... arrangement...113-4694 (NNN) NNN-
NNNN.....engine....938(or maybe937) -05850x
I'm calling the motor speeder the black cable (with some kind of gizmo on the end of it)that went from the cab to
the pump (now I'm guessing that is the ECM) which is completly off the machine now. Maybe it wasn't even bad.
By the way, the motor sounded and ran good, tracks are good and hydraulics seemed fine. Junky but usable. Not
very sellable though. The vandals got to it. Hopefully ,with your help I can get a lot of use out of it. At least for this
one job. Does anybody there know anything about JCB excavators and backhoes. ...now i'm not sure if I should
hit accept for this reply spot or go back to your answer and hit accept . I want you to get this reply so I'm gonna hit
it here...just don't want you to not get payed.
Expert: catmastertech replied 7 years ago.
The "gizmo" is the "governor actuator" it may have a separate fuse marked "G/A". These do fail and are now over
$1000. It is needed to control engine speed through the speed dial and automatic engine control (AEC). I usually
ask people to try the back-up control switches first. This will test the wiring from the cab to the G/A control.
The switches are mounted in the rear of the right hand console. One will set the system to bypass and the other
will operate the throttle manually. Most of the time it is the G/A that has failed but, sometimes the wiring to this
box has failed. It is a task to check this but, having power to the box is the first problem. I can send some
troubleshooting guides to help if you are comfortable doing electrical repairs. You will need to go into the Monitor
to check codes and if you replace the G/A box, it will need calibrating to run right. The engine speed is verified by
the speed dial output compared to the speed sensor output and alternator output. These three signals help it set
pump load.
The control box is just an output of the ECM and is set to the dial number and does not change except when it
goes to AEC idle.
Reconnect the box and test it with the manual switches. If you see damage to the cables, this will cause binding
and the motor will fail.
A common problem is the muffler rusts out and blows heat down on the cables melting them and causing it to
burn out the motor. Another $1000 for the muffler and clamps to repair this problem, this happens to all models
though.
The 9RL00153 is the serial number. This is not a B model machine and it can have many differences with the
monitor adjustments. It is (L) for long undercarriage. Dealers can find everything else with this number.
98Z05850 is your original engine serial number should you need it. You will need it for the spec's to set injectors.
Here is some info to access the data in the monitor.

Entering And Exiting Data Mode

To Enter Data Mode:

NOTE: To access and view the eight available functions in Data Mode, the engine can either be running or shut
down. If the engine is running the eight functions are viewed as operating values. If the engine is not running the
starter switch must be in the ON position.
Press and hold the ALARM CANCEL key. When the ALARM CANCEL indicator begins FLASHING, continue to
hold the ALARM CANCEL key and press and hold the POWER key. When the POWER III indicator begins
FLASHING release both keys.

Data mode is now activated and the character display will show the first function value (power shift pressure).

NOTE: If the ALARM CANCEL and POWER key are held too long, the character display may scroll to one of the
other functions.

To Exit Data Mode:

Press and hold the ALARM CANCEL key for at least two seconds. The engine speed dial position is shown on the
character display when the data mode has been exited.

Data mode can also be exited by turning the key start switch to the OFF position.

Data Mode Function Selection

1. To change the function selected, at the same time press the ALARM CANCEL key and the POWER key. While
holding the ALARM CANCEL key, press and release the POWER key until the desired function is selected, as
shown by the flashing indicator. Use the following chart to match the flashing indicator to the function.

Real Time Error

When this function is selected, travel speed HIGH (RABBIT) indicator flashes. The character display shows the
error codes for problems that exist now (present). They are displayed in an increasing number sequence. in a
repetitious manner. Each error code is shown for two seconds with a blank display shown for one second
between each code. For a list of the possible error codes, see the topic Troubleshooting Detected Faults in the
Testing And Adjusting section.

NOTE: An error code of E00, indicates that there are no system errors.
When the electronic engine and pump control detects a fault while in normal mode, the controller and/or monitor
alert indicators are turned ON. The Real Time Error function of Data Mode is used to show the detected faults.
For detailed information on Data Mode, see the topic Service Operations in the Systems Operation section. The
Error Log function of Calibration Mode is used to show detected faults that existed at some time during machine
operation, but do not exist presently. The following troubleshooting procedures were written to help solve errors
that are currently present. But the same procedures may be used to help determine the areas that may have
caused the logged error.

NOTE: When a sensor fault is present, the corresponding alert indicator on the monitor panel is also activated.
For example, if the coolant temperature sensor is shorted to +battery, then:

a. The corresponding error code is stored in memory.

b. The engine coolant temperature gauge shows in the problem region.
c. The action lamp is FLASHING.
Notice that the above items b and c are the same warning indications that are activated if the engine were to
actually overheat.

E9 And E12 Governor Actuator Feedback Sensor Voltage Is Too Low Or Unstable
This error code is present when the controller senses the governor actuator feedback sensor is not operating
correctly.

NOTE: Ensure error code E9 or E12 is being shown on the monitor display.

CHECK SIGNAL TO CONTROLLER - Turn the disconnect to the ON position. Start the engine, turn OFF the
AEC. Place the engine speed dial at position "10". Using the 7X1710 Cable Probes, measure the voltage from
connector contact 21 of the controller 24 contact connector to frame ground.

* Voltage is 6.0 to 6.9 DCV; check the machine harness for dirty or poor connections. Ensure that the error code
is still present. If the error code is still present and no problem can be found, replace the controller. See the topic
Controller Replacement.
* Voltage is NOT 6.0 to 6.9 DCV; the governor actuator is not adjusted properly or is faulty. Perform the actuator
calibration procedure, see the topic Governor Actuator Replacement And Calibration. Use the monitor to check for
the same error code. If the problem is still present replace the governor actuator. See the topic Governor Actuator
Replacement And Calibration.
