(1) Refrigerant charge amount Representative refrigerant charge amounts are shown in Table 2-7 as reference: Please refer to the respective specification about the permissible refrigerant charge amount for each compressor. Even if refrigerant charge amount is within the range shown in Table 2-7, items described below (item (2) and (3)) must be observed and minimum oil quantity in the compressor must be secured (see item 2-2-2)) If refrigerant charge amount is above the value shown in table 2-7, an accumulator with sufficient capacity and special design for oil return is necessary. And sufficient investigations and evaluations must be executed so as to observe the following items (2),3) and item 2-2-2). In such a case, liquid refrigerant is sucked directly into the compressor. This phenomena is called flood-back. Because flood-back has many negative effects on a compressor, the following conditions must be observed to prevent flood-back at steady operation. 1. Temperature of the compressor shell-bottom at 30 mm(1.2 in) above foot shell = “To” 2 Temperature of the discharge pipe at 120 mm (@7 in) from the shell-surface = “Tdis” 3, Temperature of condensing saturated vapor at that time = “CT” To > CT+10 (°C) or To > CT+18 (°F) Tdis = CT+10 (°C) or Tdis > CT+18 (°F)
