Chapter 1

Introduction

1.1 Objective

The main reason for taking up this project is to make a low-cost monitoring system that
can control the overall industrial parameters through a single computer and a concept of
automatic control will reduce the high manpower requirement. In this method, the industrial
parameters like pressure, temperature and gas are sensed by the respective sensors and are
monitored by the individual CPU. Then, the values are displayed by using the individual LCD
displays in the respective locations. The advanced technology in wireless sensor network
(WNS) lowers the sensors failure and increases its productivity in automation. In case of
emergencies, if any of the sensor output will be high, Voice module will produce the sound for
alerting the condition to workers. Monitoring industrial parameter monitoring and power
consumption control

1.2 Problem statement

The goal of the system is to create a small industrial environment, where sensor can be
monitor and controlled only based on the data received from the industrial site sensors. This data
is processed and control action placed accordingly. The system has to be implemented in a loop,
so no human intervention is allowed. This means that the system is adaptive to the environment.
The whole control device of the system it’s on Arduino. This computing system it’s used due to
the fact to prove that the whole industrial system can be automated just with a card size
computing system or a microchip and the industrial environment data can be viewed or
monitored from IoT.

1.3 The system

The devices which were invented with the new emerging technologies related to the small,
low power and viable sensors consists of a power monitor and remote communications
capabilities. The server receives the natural phenomenon data i.e. Temperature, light, and
pressure which is collected by the sensors monitoring and control of the physical environment
from remote locations is performed by battery powered nodes. Wireless multisensory networks
have met their applications ion medical, military, industrial, agricultural and environmental
monitoring. Current, voltage, temperature and water level are the traceable parameters. An
android app is developed for the control of industrial automation automatically using cloud. The
manager of the android application has his/her own unique and specific username and password
by which the app can be controlled manually. Wireless communication is the best technology
and it is widely used in industry for automation purposes. Now-a-days data acquisition system is
widely popular in the industry for remote monitoring and controlling of system status. The aim
of the project is to design a system that uses various physical parameters such as light, fire,
humidity of an industry that can be monitored through a PC using the Arduino. This parameter
contains various data from different sensors. It covers the range and performance of the system.

1.4 Motivation

The existing startups and new inventions inspired us to create something unique and
something out of the box. Day after day new models, designs and prototypes are featured in the

market. Looking at these technologies and ideas helped us to create something of our own that
was never made before. The project being a low-cost project can be modified at any point of
time. The existing tech can be removed and replaced with a new one if needed. The parts can be
detached anytime and can be replaced with new ones in case of any damage. The easy to use
mechanical games gave us an idea to make the project detachable and user friendly.

1.5 Social and Environmental Impact

WSN would revolutionize the world of technology if advanced changes would be made in
its hardware and software. It would make lives easier and would, therefore, be a great boon to
the society. It would be a whole innovative network using IOT. No use of fuel consuming
machinery makes it environmentally friendly. It reduces the hazards to workers and adjoining
population. It also leads to careful planning and emergency procedure.
