Becoming a Future Dentist

What is a career? According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, a career is a profession for

which one trains and which is undertaken as a permanent calling. In my own words I would just

call it my calling, what I am meant to do in this world. I believe my calling is to practice

dentistry.

The most important feature of being a dentist is providing help oral health services. The

nature of the job is examine teeth, gums, and related tissues. You also use dental instruments,

x-rays, and other diagnostic equipment to determine and evaluate dental health. They also

diagnose diseases and abnormalities in order to form an appropriate treatment plan for their

patients. The minimum qualifications needed to be a dentist is a doctoral degree in either dental

medicine or dental surgery. Some dental specialization require completion of residency.

Some challenges that are in the way of pursuing this career is primarily education and

debt. With debt comes stress and that's a problem arises. I would say it difficult to find a

placement in the sector because once you graduate from dental school you need to find a job

immediately on your own. The thing about this is you can either work at a group practice or

establish your own private practice. The benefits of establishing your own practice is you can get

paid more but the downside is you’re going have to pay for equipment and such. According to

their practices. The average salary of a dentist is $174,110. Benefits a dentist can receive is low

cost health insurance, paid vacation day, paid sick/maternity leave, etc.

There are many possibilities of growth in this career sector, and one of of the many is

orthodontics. The orthodontist pretty much deals with straightening your teeth and in some cases

jaw development. Another area of growth is prosthodontists and they pretty much make

prosthetics people that have missing teeth or birth defect. These are just some of the many areas

you can grow as a dentist. This career looks more appealing than the rest because I have always

love to help people and I’ve always known that I wanted to have a career related to the

health/medical field. Some shortcomings that may come in to the way of the career I would like

to pursue is whether or not I have the grades or intelligence to pursue this career. Another

shortcoming is whether or not I pass the dental acceptance test. These are just some of the many

shortcoming in pursuing this career.

Dentist basically help you by providing oral health services and such. You examine teeth,

gums, and other tissue to provide an appropriate treatment plan for your patients. You at least

need a doctorate degree in order to become a dentist. In the future I would like this to become

reality for me and that to become a dentist.
