In the 21st Century, the era of modernization, the philosophical perspective of Mahabharata is
significantly contextual for the assessment of values in our society. This paper will emphasis
on the values, which are enshrined in our society and how the female characters of
Mahabharata can be used to compare and assess those values. In our present society, value
crisis takes a major role in the social decadence. Value crisis can be recovered by the Women
empowerment. The Epic “Mahabharata” reflects those values by the dedication and
responsibility of the female characters for their empire. Values are the main pillars of social
harmony. Women are the main factors of the society to flow the values from generation to
generation.
-By Manu
“A Vedic Acharya is ten times respectable than any general Acharya. Father is hundred times
respectable than any general Acharya, but Mother is thousand times respectable than the
Father.” (Ref. Manu Sanghita-2/145) Women with good values can easily eradicate the root
of value crisis from the society. Women are the born teachers to educate the children from the
birth. As a sound mind dwells in a sound body, similarly a strong society can be made by the
strong women. Values can be transferred to the children easily through value education in the
family. Philosophical aspects of the “Mahabharata” depicted by the values like strong
determination, dedication, responsibilities etc enshrined in the female characters. Using this
point of view present generation can take lessons for their improvement.
