Workshop on Ruby on Rails
Duration : 2 days
Venue : Seminal Hall

Motive & Objectives of the Event :

The workshop was held by teams from Nascenia, Syftet, Misfit, Ruby
Bangladesh community collaborating with Computer Club, CSE IIUC. The main
motive of this workshop was to create a bridge between the academic zone and
field zone for developing a quality software engineer.
And the objectives were:
1. To get familiar with open-source operating system like linux.
2. To introduce the flavor of a new language (ruby).
3. To remind the basics object oriented programming (OOP).
4. To get familiar with MVC design pattern (ruby on rails).

Event Stream :
The workshop started at sharp 9:00 AM with a very slight introduction . At
first the team was trying to get used to with what programming language Ruby and
how it is installed on Linux distros and how it works. Apparently, most of the
students failed to install because of having windows operating system as they were
only prepared for linux , but most of the trainers were very kind enough to help for
each student who was unable to cope with ruby installation process.
After the first session a seminar on software quality assurance and cyber
security as well as security which was conducted by the QA head of Nascenia.
Carrier guideline graduates and various aspects of software quality assurance and
cyber security were discussed there. The seminar ended with a short QA session.
The final technical session of the day 1 started just after lunch .Most of the
students finished the process of installation (ruby on rails and package
managers) .Then basics of ruby (syntax) where shown for basic programming such
as variable declaration and assign , data types and co. The day for workshop as
well as session ended with some slight hints of Object Oriented Programming in
Ruby.

First session of day 2 started with checking if anyone who has problems
from the previous sessions .The session goal was to get used to with ruby on rails
framework and further installations.
Second session started after a tea break.A Perimeter check is given on
download and installation of ruby on rails .This session had a proper understanding
in MVC linguistics and QA session
Third and last session of the day 2 and also the workshop started after the
lunch. The objective of this session was to create a demo web application running
on default Puma server created by Rails .
A closing ceremony was held after the last session of the day. Where trainers
and also the trainees gave their thoughts surrounding areas. Some of the Faculty
members also expressed gratitude toward us.
Conclusion : From a technical point of view , this workshop was important for
me because it was my first industrial workshop. We got to know about a new
language (ruby) and key terms of MVC framework .The seminar was also good ,
because some unknown ideas and areas were discussed at there .
