Report of the death of Mr. Noah Body

Yesterday night at 9:45 PM investigators found Mr. Noah Body murdered in his own bedroom.

After deliberation with witnesses, six possible suspects were named. The suspects include, the maid who

arrived at work at 8 AM and left at 4 pm and was spotted downtown in the evening celebrating. The

second suspect was the Butler, He was in and out of the house most of the day running errands. He ate

dinner with the cook at 5:15 and after dinner he went home. The third suspect is the cook who arrived at

the house at 2 PM to cook dinner, he served dinner at 5 PM, but Mr. Body did not attend the dinner. He

claimed this was not unusual as Mr. Body is a very busy man. The cook left the house at 5:30 PM. The

fourth suspect is the gardner who arrived at two PM to trim, and left after his work was done at five PM.

The fifth suspect was Mrs. Body who was in and out of the house from 9 AM to 6 PM, and she was the

one who discovered Mr. Body dead at 9:45 and alerted the authorities. Finally, the last suspect is Mr.

Bodys lawyer who met with his client at three PM and left the house at 4:30 PM. Once all the suspects

were named and their stories were received the Investigators got to their work. They found his body

temperature at 10:07 PM and found it to be 87.1 degrees fahrenheit. One hour later the body temperature

was 85.6 degrees fahrenheit. Mr. Bodys home thermostat was set to 75 degrees fahrenheit and hadn't been

changed for days. Mr Body has been in good health recently and this means his body temperature before

his death was 98.6 degrees fahrenheit. With the information that we collected we were able to apply our

variables into a continuous decay rate function. Our first step was to find decay rate or K. Then, we used

the temperatures that we found at 10:07 PM and 11:07, and placed them into the equation. The equation

we came up with is the temperature at 10:07 is equal to the temperature at 11:07 minus the temperature

limit that could be in the house, this multiplied by e and raised to the power of negative k. This is all

multiplied by the difference in times, then finally adding the temperature limit. The equation looks like
-k(1)
the following, 85.6= (87.1-75)e +75. This equation was chosen in order to find decaying rate in

which I would use later on to find the time of death. With this exponential equation we solved for the

decay rate or k and found it to be .1324. With this information we then went back and switched around

some of the numbers in order to find the amount of time that Mr. Body before the body was found at

10:07. This new equation that was formed is, the temperature at 11:07 is equal to the temperature at the

time of death minus the temperature limit, this is multiplied by e and raised to the power of -k. We know

the K to be .1324 therefore it is -.1324. This is multiplied by the difference in time between when the two

temperatures were recorded, which is our final variable ¨y¨. Finally, the temperature limit is added. The

-.1324y
equation is 87.1= (98.6-75)e +75. This equation solved the decaying rate or y to be 5.05.

Once the decaying rate was found, I multiplied it by 60 in order to convert the time into minutes

and subtracting it from 607, or the minute conversion of 10:07. After subtracting the number

from 607, I divided it by 60 to find the time of death. The time that Mr. Noah Body died was

5:04 PM. We then created a graph with a function that accurately represented the decaying body

temperature. With our x axis being the time elapsed and the y axis being the body temperature.

The graph has a horizontal asymptote of 75 as the body never will never get below the

temperature of the room. With the information about the possible suspects, we are able to

determine that the Cook and the Butler were at the house at the time of death. In our final report

we were able to establish a culprit of this murder. The butler and the cook had worked to

together in order to execute Mr. Body because Mr. Body had not been paying them enough

money. The butler had drugged Mr. Body which made him fall into a deep sleep, and once he

was asleep the cook came into the room and chopped off Mr. Bodys head. It was a gruesome

murder and the men were sentenced to life in prison without bail.
