TIN HOUSE TO HOST AN EXCLUSIVE LAUNCH PARTY WITH AUTHOR ALEXIS M.

SMITH

PORTLAND, OR (May 7, 2013) – In celebration of the release of her new novel, Bridges,
Alexis M. Smith will be leading a walking tour of her favorite thrift shops in Portland, Oregon
on Saturday, July 13, 2013. ―This is a pretty unique launch for a book. I haven’t heard of anyone
doing something like this before. I look forward to meeting my readers and it will be exciting to
show others the places and people where I found inspiration for my books,‖ said Smith
(@MargaretASmith).

Smith’s first book, Glaciers, was selected as a finalist for the Oregon Book Awards and was
given out in celebration of World Book Night. It has recently been released in the United
Kingdom. Following on the heels of this success, Bridges incorporates some of the settings and
characters from Smith’s first novel, including a memorable Portland thrift shop and store owner.
Bridges follows Eliza in a day where she navigates family, friends, and strangers while trying to
make funeral arrangements for her father.

The author will take a small group of readers on a walking tour to various thrift stores, including
the one that inspired parts of her first novel, Glaciers. The tour will conclude with an intimate
dinner at the Stumptown Cafe which is featured in Bridges. Participants will each receive a
signed copy of both Bridges and Glaciers.

Alexis M. Smith is a local author whose two novels are based in Portland. They are both
published by Tin House Books, which is an independent publishing house on NW Thurman
Street in Portland. ―We’re so excited to host this launch party. Alexis and I both call Portland
home and felt it was a fitting place to launch this new book as the city is close to a secondary
character in both novels,‖ said Tony Perez, editor of Tin House Books.

Participants need to sign up for the tour on the Tin House website (www.tinhouse.com/events)
no later than June 4, 2013. The cost of the event is $45 which includes two signed books,
Glaciers and Bridges (three days before its release date) and dinner at Stumptown Cafe. This
event is designed for a small group—Tin House will only accept the first twelve people to
register. The final time and meeting place will be emailed to the participants and all locations
visited will be in Portland, Oregon.

Bridges will be available for purchase on Tuesday, July 16, 2013. Visit
www.facebook.com/bridgesbook for more information about the book.
