Bare Metal Switching

What is Bare Metal Switching?
What is Bare Metal Switching?
Is DXS/DQS-5000 a bare metal switch?

• Bare-metal switches
– OEM Brand – Accton, Alpha, Quanta and Delta
• White-box (off-shelf components) switch
– Vendor (like HP) ODM Running on Broadcom Trident II
chipset with their every own NOS
• Branded bare-metal switches
– Very similar to white-box except Branded Bare-metal
switches like Dell and HP provides better services and
support
Bare Metal Switching

• The Market Status

– Widely accepted by data centers due to higher flexibility and better software control
– Port shipment becomes the 2nd spot of overall DC switches, and keep on growing

• The Market Trend

– Decoupling software and hardware from switch
– Leveraging merchant silicon instead of proprietary
– Keep on growing for 25GbE & 100GbE; 25GbE’s port shipment has surpassed 200K, a
milestone that took 10GbE ports roughly six years to reach.*

Why do you need Layer 3 switching?

Subnet A
• It is good practice to divide larger networks into
smaller subnets.
• Smaller subnets – less broadcast traffic.
• Using different IP subnets allows to apply different

Industrial Grade Switches
Why Industrial Grade Switches?

• Able to withstand both high temperature and cold temperature

• More rugged than typical Rack-mount switches with electromagnetic
compatibility (EMC) standards EN 55022 and EN 55024.
• Require redundant power supply
• For safety purposes, most control panels run from either 24V AC or DC
sources

• Some IP cameras support multiple simultaneous streams with different Codec
settings.
• Multiple profiles can be created in these cameras, each profile with its own
Codec and resolution settings.

Stream 1 1920x1080 @ 30 fps Two streams.

Second stream is optimized for
GSM/4G mobile viewing.

CABLE TYPE
MEDIA TYPE

• One of the first choices faced when planning or developing a structured

cabling system is the type of media to be used.
• ANSI/TIA/EIA 568 recognizes these different medias
• Copper Media:
– Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP).
– Shielded Twisted Pair (STP).
• Fiber Media:
– Single-mode optical fiber cables.
– Multimode optical fiber cables.

FIBER MEDIA

A Fiber-optic system is similar to the copper wire system

that fiber-optics is replacing.

The difference is that fiber-optics use light pulses

to transmit information down fiber lines
instead of using electronic pulses to transmit
information down copper lines.

The two basic types of fiber cables are;

Multi-Mode Fiber cables

Single-Mode Fiber cables
