What are some of the past tenses? How do we form: Past simple, past continuous, past perfect and past
perfect continuous? Why do we use those tenses?
Ex Pas perfect: Had + past participle. Conjugate some verbs in those tenses.
Contruction of new knowdege
To better explain the uses of those past tenses students will identify some of the tenses of the verbs in bold
in exercise 1 and than match them to their uses ex: Past simple - Action which happened one after the
other in the past etc.
Past simple is formed -ed for regular verbs and 2nd column for irregular verbs.
Past continuous: was /were + verb + ing form.
Past perfect: had + past participle. It is used to express and action which happened before another action in
the past.
Past perfect continuous: had + been + verb + ing form. Is used to express and action which had been in
progress before another action in the past.
Then again students will practice using those tenses to fill in the verb in brackets in exercise 1.
In exercise 1 b they will match the verbs given with the action that they express.
To practice past tenses student exercise 2 they will choose the correct verb form and in exercise 3 they
will put the verbs in the brackets in past simple or present perfect tense.
They will also practice with the word order by completing exercise 4 and putting words in the correct
order.
Learning situation: To practice using thoses past tenses students will complete be sentences in ex 5 so
that they are true for them. I will also explain to the students the use of "Used to", "would" and "get used
to".
Used to and would are both use to describe something that happened regularly in the past but doesn't happen any
longer, as shown in the following two sentences about quitting smoking:
1. I used to smoke, but I quit last year.
2. Whenever I craved a cigarette, I would chew gum instead.
However, there are two important differences between used to and would. The first difference is that would should
not be used unless it has already been established that the time frame is in the past, while used to does not require
this. This example, with used to at the beginning, sounds natural: I used to watch cartoons every Saturday morning
when I was very little. Now I rarely watch TV. However, when used to is replaced with would, the same example
becomes awkward and ungrammatical:
Presentation and demonstration of the achieved result
In order to present their achieved knowledge in the use of "used to, would and get used to" students will
complete ex 6a.

Assessment
I will evaluate students on their participation in the lesson.
