Objectives
The European University Institute is home to the Historical Archives of the European Union, a collection of archives from
the European Court of Auditors and other European institutions. The joint grant scheme of the ECA and the EUI offers an
opportunity to delve into these rich historical archives. Florence, a centre of European culture, history and research, is the
ideal setting for scholars to explore, examine and conduct original research into pertinent European questions. This
programme ensures continued research into the public finances of the EU as well as audit and accountability in the EU
context. Moreover, it is forging a community of researchers in this field. The scheme began in 2007 and has since enabled
original research into many areas, including the role of the EU institutions, the evolution of compliance, the development of
audit methodology, shared management in policy implementation, multi-level governance, EU regional policy, the
emergence of institutional norms and values, EU development policy, and more.
Eligibility
The programme is open to all current postgraduate students (master’s and doctoral candidates) and to postdoctoral
students, as well as to university teachers who have completed their master's degree or doctorate within the past ten
years.
Selection Committee
The Grant Programme Selection Committee is composed of the former Director of the Historical Archives of the European
Union and of senior (or former) officials of the European Court of Auditors.
