Noteworthy

Thank you to our fabulous Huddle families for making us feel so loved last
week! We really appreciate the flowers that are still brightening our classroom,
the cards, the treats, the kind words, the lunches, the staff room treats, and on
and on. Thank you for taking the time to make us feel special!

Writing Social Studies/Science

This week, students will be continuing to 4th graders will be experimenting with how heat is
another energy source that can makes things go as
add details to their opinion writing essays,
they make heat engines to turn a fan. 5th graders
focusing on adding anecdotes
are working through their unit on the planets, moon,
(mini-stories) and counterarguments to
strengthen their claims. This won’t be a
major focus this week due to the extensive
HUDDLE and sun. Last week we conducted an experiment to
see why the sun rises in the east and sets in the
west. This week, we’re studying shadows and
writing your children will be doing during
CAASPP testing.

Math: 4th grade Math: 5th grade

This week, 4th graders will be using the
idea of congruence (same size, same
shape), symmetry, and decomposing
and reconfiguring shapes in order to find
the area. Just like students learn how to
break numbers apart to help them solve
more difficult problems, they can also
think about shapes flexibly to help them
find the area.
This week, 5th graders are continuing to
review before math testing next week. They
are also spending time studying geometry,
specifically how to classify shapes like
triangles and quadrilaterals. We are also
continuing our work with multiplying and
dividing decimals, largely by using estimation
and looking for reasonable answers.
