Sometimes the alternative is better

“Come on girls you got this, push! ” said Coach Buckley to her volleyball girls during
drills. Coach Rachel Buckley has been playing volleyball for four years. She played for North
Carolina state and loved every second of it. She always knew that she was good and standing
at 6’’ she was perfect for volleyball. “If i didn’t make it volleyball I wanted to do something in the
sports field,” said Buckley. “ maybe something in the NBA or the NFL.”
Even though Buckley was good at volleyball she didn’t even consider coaching at
Hebron high. “One of my old friends was coaching here and she told me there was a coaching
job open,” said Buckley. “I took it to get back into the sport and i’ve been here ever since.”
Coach Buckley loves coaching at Hebron and says she is happy she took the opportunity.
“I would say coach is strict and lenient at the same time,” said freshmen Jazmin Payne.
“Coach is really fun and easy to work with but sometimes she can get to the point where it’s just
‘baseline now’ and that’s the strict part.”

Coach Buckley coached at a club after college and before she started coaching at
Hebron (club name is unknown). If coach Buckley didn’t make it in a sport she had an
alternative. “ I would have done something in marketing if my volleyball career was held back.”
Coach Buckley is loved by all her players. Coach Buckley also coaches Hebron’s girls
basketball team and she loves it there and all of her players love her. “ Coach Buckley is an
awesome coach and she is really tough and she pushes us to be our best,” said Freshmen
Trinity Smith. “ I love working with coach Buckley and i wish i was as fit as her.”
Coach Buckley wants to continue coaching at Hebron and doesn’t plan on leaving any
time soon. She never knew she was going to coach at a highschool and she didn’t want to
either but now that she is she loves it and wants to continue coaching. “ Coaching definitely
wasn’t my plan but I wouldn’t change doing it.”
