Hebron Golfers Destiny

On May 13-14, senior Jennie Park will compete in the State golf tournament.
Park plays for Hebron’s girl golf team. On may 20-21, Senior Derek Hamilton will
compete in the State tournament as well. Hamilton started playing for Hebron his
freshman year, and he was one of the worst players. “I just practiced a lot,” said
Hamilton “I was one of the worst players on the team but now i’m top 5 and improved
quite a lot.” Hamilton had only been playing for around 3 or 4 years and this year on his
senior year he got better and qualified.
Park, however, is a really good player and she knew her potential. This will be
her fourth year advancing to State. She was happy that she qualified, but she wasn’t
surprised. “I was still excited but it wasn’t as new to me,” said Park “It felt kinda normal
in a way.” Park always knew she was an advanced golf player, she knew her potential
was greater then some of the other players. “I’m a little more advanced than the regular
high school golfers,” said Park. “Making it to State was definitely one of my goals for my
high school career.”
Coach Terie Campbell was also very happy for her players for
advancing.”Jennie, very excited it was her fourth year advancing to State and I think she
was the only girl in LISD to advance 4 years in a row.” The teammates are very helpful
and supportive when they found out about Park and Hamilton advancing to State. “Our
teammates are very supportive,” said Park “ I can only bring one teammate to the
tournament but the rest wished me luck and they encouraged me a lot.”
Coach Campbell is the only female coach that coaches a guy team at the
Regional Tournament. “I looked around and it was all male coaches,” said Coach
Campbell. “There’s not a lot of women who coaches guys sports.” Campbell is a really
good motivator and helps out the teams a lot and gives good advice when the games
get hard. “ My best saying is ‘The most important shot is the next one’ a lot of my
players get angry when they make a bad shot,” said Campbell. “ They would hit out of
anger the next shot and end up going off course.”
Coach and the golf team are preparing to dominate at State and support Park
and Hamilton.
