“Did you really just say that? What’s wrong with you?” Said Kamden furiously.

All the
kids in the classroom went crazy with anger and the teacher had no idea what was going on.
Jacob, an Asian kid had called Brandon, an African American kid, the “N” word. Jacob and
Brandon were arguing and no one really knows how it started. It took a terrible turn when Jacob
said “ Shut up ‘n’ go back to Africa.”
The level of disrespect and racism at Hebron is so unacceptable. There are teachers
here who show it on the low and the students here notice it. It’s offensive and annoying. There
was a time when a teacher asked me for my ID. I was with my friend Alivia (Alivia’s white) and
we were going to tutorials up stairs during block lunch. I had on my ID it was just tucked in my
shirt but the straps were visible and there’s no way anyone couldn’t tell it was there.
Alivia hasn’t worn her ID that whole day and the teacher who asked me for mine just
over looked her. And with the shirt she was wearing you can tell she didn’t have on her ID. The
teacher looked me dead in my eyes and said “ Where’s your ID” I looked down at my shirt,
looked at Alivia then looked back up at her. She said “It needs to be visible.”
I’m a respectful kid but that kind of made me mad so I asked “Why would you ask me
where my ID is if you can see that I have it on and it’s just tucked away?” I guess that made the
teacher mad because she walked away and still didn’t say anything to Alivia. Later that day
when we were walking to fourth period, she asked me again, “ Where’s your ID?” I was so
irritated I just kept walking. She got louder and louder even though there was about 80 other
kids walking past her.
When I made it to the locker room, “That’s so messed up, you didn’t even do anything
and you had your ID on.” Said Alivia “I didn’t have mine on all day and she didn’t say anything to
me.” My friend group isn’t really that diverse. I only hangout with black people and one white
girl, but when my friends and I try to make more friends to join us they look at us like we’re crazy
so we stopped trying, and now we’re just outcast.
