Testing Capabilities
TransCanada Turbines owns and operates a Rolls-Royce Category 1 approved test cell, located at the
Calgary facility. Opened in June of 1998, this 930 m² (10,000 ft²) test cell is capable of testing all marks of
the Avon, RB211 and RB211 DLE, as well as the General Electric LM1500 and LM2500. TransCanada
Turbines performs all tests with natural gas, and is the first Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul Centre to
achieve approval from Rolls-Royce for Verification, Configuration, Calibration, Competency, Testing and
Performance Analysis program compliancy to Rolls-Royce OIA52 Process.

In addition to performing all tests to Rolls-Royce test specifications and requirements, TCT tests engine
data against trend expectations to ensure that the data collected is within normal and expected limits.
During engine trending, data is analyzed to ensure that no unusual characteristics are prevalent with the
operation of the engine. Vibration analysis conducted on all engines includes acceleration and deceleration
vibration survey, and the use of a vibration spectrum analyzer to check the engines’ vibration
characteristics against standards and trend expectations.

In 2004 TCT opened its cold end drive test facility for General Electric LM6000 PA and PC industrial
aero-derivative gas turbines in Strathmore, Alberta 56 kilometres east of Calgary. The test facility enables
TCT to test the LM6000 against a live power grid in a similar situation to a customer’s actual operating
conditions.

Health and Safety Strategy

TCT believes that Health & Safety are an integral part of every process, and consistently strives to achieve

order to successfully realize HSE goals, it is imperative that all employees are fully aware of their vital
roles and responsibilities within the active Safety Management System. The HSE manual has been
designed to clearly set out these requirements and responsibilities.

Company HSE Values and System Operation

TransCanada Turbines is extremely proud of its Health & Safety performance over recent years. It is firmly
believed that robust leadership, clear goals and targeted resources have allowed a company wide safety
culture to flourish. The system functions with a continuous learning and improvement cycle as the basis,
and openly encourages all suggestions, recommendations and experiences. Reporting of incidents or the
refusal of unsafe work practices are not penalized; and ‘near miss’ reporting is actively encouraged and
treated as a valuable learning experience for prevention of future incidents and improvement of current
policies. Core values, strategies, rules, regulations and requirement are listed within the HSE manual,
along with process requirements that ensure the continuous improvement cycle operates.
