Dear School Board District 9 Constituents:

I am announcing my candidacy today for the Lafayette Parish School Board.

Retiring from my position as superintendent does not decrease my commitment to the students, teachers
and employees of Lafayette Parish public schools. I believe parents in Youngsville, Broussard, Milton and
South Lafayette – who are represented in District 9 – deserve a hard-working, dedicated and
knowledgeable school board member. I look forward to campaigning for your support and working on
your behalf if you choose me as your representative.

Forty-three years in public education has given me the chance to understand the challenges and
opportunities that await the Lafayette Parish School System. I am steadfast in the belief that public
education is a vital and capable part of improving the quality of life in our communities and stimulating
the local economy. I strongly believe that students, teachers and parents are the priorities in our school
system. I believe I have much to offer the people of Lafayette Parish. I humbly request your support for
my candidacy to serve as the District 9 school board member.

Public education has been a part of my entire life. The Lafayette Parish School System provided a quality
education to my wife and children. I attended school in Evangeline Parish. Our grandchildren attend public
school in Texas. My entire family believes in our public school system and in its ability to grow, evolve and
compete on the national and global levels. We have seen it this year in academics, robotics, arts and
athletics. As your District 9 school board representative, I will work to provide every student with the
same high quality of education, no matter the grade level or educational need. I will advocate that all
children receive the same excellent instruction in Lafayette Parish schools, while also representing the
interests and needs of District 9.

In District 9, I would represent students attending Milton Elementary/Middle, Martial F. Billeaud

Elementary, Ernest Gallet Elementary, Green T. Lindon Elementary, Katharine Drexel Elementary,
Broussard Middle, Youngsville Middle, Comeaux High and Southside High. These schools are in one of the
fastest-growing areas in Lafayette Parish. Billeaud Elementary and Southside High are new schools. The
new performing arts wing opened at Comeaux High in January 2019. There are planned or completed
facility improvements at Milton, Green T. Lindon, Katharine Drexel and Youngsville Middle. This work was
necessary to remove temporary buildings and increase student capacity in south Lafayette Parish.

District 9 is currently served by a strong leader who has been instrumental in addressing academic and
facility needs, while also providing fiscal transparency via lafayettecheckbook.com. You, the residents of
District 9, have shown strong support for the public school system through your involvement and
communication with teachers, administrators, central office staff and board members. A resolute District
9 board member will be needed to continue to grow and protect the educational investment in Lafayette
Parish schools, including those in south Lafayette. I am committed to supporting and serving District 9 and
Lafayette Parish. This elective office is a part-time job; but for me, having recently retired as
superintendent, I intend for this new chapter of public service in my life to be a full-time responsibility.

My skills and experience as an educator, administrator and former superintendent, as well as my

demonstrated decision-making and problem-solving ability, have prepared me for this District 9 school
board member position. Additionally, I have the requisite skills that are important for this elected role. I
can identify problems, establish priorities, implement solutions and evaluate results using a proactive
leadership style. I also have human relations and leadership skills that encourage a collaborative,
consensus-building approach to solving problems.

I am committed to considering whatever measures are necessary to improve future outcomes for all
Lafayette Parish students. Please support my candidacy as we embrace the challenge of a new era that
will transform all of our schools into high-performing learning communities. Working together, we can
create a brighter future for the children of District 9.

Sincerely,

Donald W. Aguillard., Ph.D.
