Summary of Storyline

May is a 20 year-old teenager that has been studying in college for a year now. Her
behaviour was increasingly odd in college according to her lecturer and friends. She quit seeing her
friends and no longer seemed to care about her appearance or social pursuits. She began wearing the
same clothes each day and seldom bathed.

She rarely spoke to her friends or her only sister, April. When she did talk to them, she
talked about how she is verbally abused by her lecturer and classmates. She skipped class so often
without any valid reason and never told her sister. April had often seen May talking and mumbling
to herself and at times she seemed to be talking to people who were not there. May would often ask
her friend to be quiet even when they were not making any noise.

One day, May is brought into the emergency room by April when she found May lying on
the floor with some pills by her side. It turns out that her grandmother had a schizophrenia and had
lived for 30 years in a mental hospital. On top of that, her parents left him and her sister when May
was very young. They have been out of touch with them. Therefore, May inherited the same illness
as her grandmother which was mainly a genetic inheritance and partly caused by her parents leaving
her and his sister.
May refused to believe the fact that she is diagnosed with schizophrenia. She is embarrassed
and refused to let others think she has a physiological disorder. She refuses to take her medication
and is still haunted by her own hearing that do not exists and her own confused thinking. April
comforted and console her while she was in the hospital for the whole time. She talked to May
ensuring her that having schizophrenia is not embarrassing.

After some advise and support from April, May then agreed to sign herself into the
psychiatric unitor treatment. She listened to her sister and decided to trust in the doctors. After a few
weeks, May's symptoms have slightly subsided and was discharged from the hospital. Her condition
can be managed with medication and psychosocial therapy.

In conclusion, psychological disorders can be treated as long as the patient is willing to

accept treatment and will follow up the treatments or therapies according to their doctors.

Doctor: I will prescribe some medicine which is known as antipsychotic medication to
your sister to effectively manage sighs and symptoms at the lowest dose and also some

April: May, calm down. You are not crazy, you are just sick. Don’t worry, you’ll get better.
May: But how can I get better. I cannot stand them scolding me.
April: No one scold you. You just have to take medication on time and see the doctor for
therapy once in a week. I am always here for you.
May: Okay, I trust in you.

14
May then agreed to sign herself for the treatment. Two months later, May is discharged from the
hospital and is able to control her symptoms with ongoing medication and therapies.

Although currently there is no cure for schizophrenia, you can treat and manage it with medication,
self-help strategies, and supportive therapies. Schizophrenia requires lifelong treatment, even when
symptoms have subsided. Having schizophrenia doesn’t mean you can’t live a full life. With the
right treatment, most people with schizophrenia are able to have satisfying relationships, be part of
a community and enjoy life. Many people with schizophrenia can function normally. No matter
what challenges you presently face, there is always hope.

THE END.
