Dear Winthrop House community,

am writing to let you know that Ronald Sullivan and Stephanie Robinsen will not be
continuing as your Faculty Deans whentheir erm ends on June 30, 2019.

My decision not to renew the Faculty Deans was informed by a number of considerations
Overthe last few weeks, students and staff have continued to communicate conosrns
aboutthe climate in Winthrop House to the College. The conoems expressed have been
serious andnumerous. The actions that have beentaken toimprove the climate have been
ineffective, and the noticeable lack of faculty dean presence during eritical moments has
further deterioratedthe climate in the House. I have concluded that the situation in the
Houseis untenable.

This is a regrettable situation anda very hard decision tomake. Ihave long admired your
Faculty Deans’ commitment to justice and civic engagement, as well as the good work they
have done in support of diversity in their House community. | know that some of you are
also proud of these efforts. | also know that some of you have beengreatly helped and
supported by your Faculty Deansin difficult situations. This decision in no way lessens my
gratitude tothem for their contributions to the College.

The College will share more information soonabout interim leadership of Winthrop House
‘as we conduct the searchforthe new Facully Deans. Between now and June 30,the
College will work with Deans Sullivan and Rosinson to assist them with upcomingevents,
such as Commencement, housing, and financial administration

acknowledgethat the announcementof this transiticn is happeningduring exam period,

and lam sorryfor any disruption. | wanted toshare this information with you before
students leave campus. | recognize there willbe many different reactions among you to
this news. I hope you will Keepthis in mind, assumethe best of everyone,andtreat each
other with the belief that each of us supports a Winthrop community defined by dignity,
